The CPU multi core looks like M2 Pro numbers. What a waste on an iPad.

@paul @stroughtonsmith Lol. Just compared it to my M1 Pro 16". It's basically double the multi-core performance.

I guess when the 16" M4 Pro drops I "have to" upgrade.

@paul the most painful part is they have all necessary pieces on the tech side to unleash the power even with iPadOS... they just refuse to do that on the policy side 🫠

@khaost @paul I can't wait to be disappointed at WWDC.

@fichek @khaost am I the only one who thinks the iPad does all I need it to do? It runs Safari, Mail, iMessage, various streaming services, my social media client of choice. Don't really need it to do anything else. Only thing I’m ever missing is a MicroSD card for cheap media storage.

@paul @fichek @khaost Clearly the iPad Pro is overpowered for that.

It seems to be pitched for media production, but it's not got enough storage, and the file handling is way too janky to take that seriously.

@john @paul @fichek @khaost I’ve used my iPad Pro professionally for years, mainly for sculpting and texture work, that it’s better at than my Mac. Storage can be solved with enough money but it takes dedication to overlook the abysmal file handling. Just give me Finder now.

@PKB @john @paul @khaost I agree there are certain use cases it’s better at than Macs. Thing is, all of the hardware revisions haven’t really made any new use cases possible since the original Pro and Pencil, or improved existing ones much beyond being a bit faster than fast enough. It took over a decade to let us use a few more generic USB device types and that, like many other limits (including the awful Files app), is all just software holding this stupidly powerful slab of glass back.

@fichek @PKB @paul @khaost I'd be happy with it as a companion device which just syncs to my Mac, honestly, but it can't even do that because the software locks my files in app buckets which just doesn't work for any reasonable workflow.
