Thinking further about the SNCF ticket office employee in Strasbourg telling me SNCF ticket offices & SNCF Connect no longer being able to sell me tickets to Germany is Deutsche Bahn's fault (it isn't - it's 100% SNCF)…

The employee answered with full confidence. She's been asked this before. The line that it was DB's fault had been used many times

So is it either staff have been told to blame DB? Or they’ve been told nothing, and so make this up to save face?

Neither is a good look

@jon I really think the employee didn’t know better. Knowing how difficult it is to get lines of communication right for every thinkable question „in the field“, it seems most likely someone somewhere made that one up for some reason and it’s not important enough to set it straight.

@Annle Absolutely not. The line was well rehearsed, had been used before. She even knew the date from which the bookings are no longer possible perfectly. This is Strasbourg after all - there is a lot of traffic to Germany there.

And even if the employee did not know better, then say "sorry I don't know” - don't make stuff up!

@jon I‘m not saying she made it up. I don’t believe she did. But Someone else did.

If something like that’d happen at Deutsche Bahn I‘d rather think that that someone messed up and didn’t go through the proper process for the briefing and no one up the chain knows about this.

@Annle I am going to test this again in Paris on Wednesday, and see if I get the same answer. That there is a note somewhere that says “blame DB" would not be impossible for SNCF.

@jon wanna buy a ticket for Trains to Switzerland? And with a connection national train? Currently possible, but by the end of Month only on TGV Lyria, also no more national SBB trains!
And if you don't pay enough attention you miss this orange text in the very compact booking-summary.
And we in Switzerland need to discuss with the passengers, cause they can't show us a ticket cause they didn't see the note about they need to print out those tickets... 🫠

@jon@gruene.social avatar

@K1ngdaKa88 you mean you expect SNCF to have actually talked to a neighbouring railway? Dream on!

@jon It just might be an internal note to all SNCF ticket office employees and there you have it… everyone's going to tell this fake story at costumers.

At German stations I'm still told that it's SNCF's fault they couldn't issue TGV tickets within France anymore. Don't know how much this is true. I assume SNCF demands horrendous fees to access their sales system and DB isn't willing to pay for this.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@wrzlbrnft sure, but i would like to know is this structured malevolence (i.e. from the top) or face saving from the employee (i.e. make it up). Because what is being told here is a flat out lie - this is 100% SNCF's fault

h0m54r,

@jon Would the DB press office and/or legal department have anything to say about being slandered like this?

@h0m54r I am going to contact a DB contact and see what they say.
