Paxton loses appeal challenging Harris County guaranteed income

The 14th Court of Appeals has denied an emergency motion from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office seeking to stop Harris County’s new guaranteed income program, Uplift Harris, from sending out checks to low-income residents this week.

The first checks are set to go out on April 24.

Update: the Texas Supreme Court has stepped in and temporarily blocked the program while the AG’s office appeals. Ken Paxton gets another chance.
