@helenczerski I’d be a bit surprised if they were equivalently strong, as the hydrophobic sand will have pore space filled with water, and air coating the sand grains - capillary pressure to a gas will never be as high as to water, and the wet quartz surface energy to water will likewise be different to the hydrophobic compound surface energy to air.
Just a thought …
