With about 55% of votes counted, Socialists are virtually tied with most popular right leaning party. Far right party seems to be losing votes compared to last election.
@GottaLaff
Just over 75% of votes counted & live results continue to show a narrow gap between the Socialists and the PP.
The PP – who polls had suggested would win the election by a substantial margin – have 132 seats. The Socialists trail slightly behind at 126.
Far-right Vox party has 33 seats while leftwing movement Sumar has 30.
Preliminary count suggests that PP and Vox together would have 165 seats – just shy of the 176 seats needed for a majority in the country’s 350-seat parliament.
This suggests that whoever ends up holding the remaining 30 seats not accounted for in the report will end up wielding a wildly disproportionate influence on government.
It’s all about the agreements between parties. Polls were suggesting results would heavily favour the two RW Parties, yet results seem to differ. So it’s possible the left flank will be able to make enough agreements with each other to maintain control. The RW were promising to repeal many recent socially progressive laws. Keeping my fingers crossed for progress.
@GottaLaff We watched it happen in the UK and didn't heed the warning, we didn't turn out in numbers too big to ignore and Trump became president. We MUST heed these warnings. We must all show up and vote and send this hideous trend back to where it belongs, even if we can't fully irradicate it. This extremism should never be near any position of responsibility.
@GottaLaff Turned out the right wing parties did not gain a majority. Chances are the current left wing president will also lead the new parliament. So good news!
