Urgent need to investigate role of technology, social media companies in killing Gazan civilians

The role of major technology companies and international social media platforms in the killing of Palestinian civilians during Israel’s genocidal war against the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023, must be investigated. These companies need to be held accountable if found to be complicit or not to have taken adequate precautions to prevent access to, and exploitation of, users’ information. They must ensure that their services are not used in conflict zones and that their users’ privacy is respected.

With concerns being voiced regarding the Lavender system’s possible reliance on tracking social media accounts, Israeli military and intelligence sources have acknowledged attacking potential targets without considering the principle of proportionality or collateral damage.

A young Palestinian man who requested to be identified only as “A.F.” due to safety concerns, for instance, was seriously injured in an Israeli bombing that targeted a residential house in Gaza City’s Al-Sabra neighborhood.

His relative told Euro-Med Monitor that A.F. had merely been attempting to mimic press reporters when he posted the brief video clip on his personal Instagram account. Suddenly, however, A.F. was targeted by an Israeli reconnaissance plane while on the roof of the house.

The house was targeted shortly after A.F. posted a video clip on Instagram, which is owned by Meta, in which he joked that he was in a “field reconnaissance mission”.

A separate Israeli bombing on 16 April claimed the lives of six young Palestinians who had gathered to access Internet services. One of the victims was using a group chat on WhatsApp—a Meta subsidiary—to report news about the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood of Gaza City.

Mrkawfee,

Zuckerberg is a committed Zionist. Musk had a “come to genocide” moment with Shapiro. TikTok is being banned. If you want to know what thought control looks like this is it.

I’m muted on threads and insta since I commented on Sentaor John Fettermans account with an image of a Guardian report about Netanyahu rejecting a ceasefire including returning the hostages.

Fetterman was posting about how they need to return the hostages, and I said they tried, but Bibi doesn’t want the hostages back. He wants war.

Anyway I’ve got a mystery time out now, so anything I try to comment tells me I’m not allowed for 2 weeks.

rottingleaf,

I mean, all this is asking the governments which support this to investigate others’ complicity in their actions.

“Rule of law” surely sounds and seems nice, when it’s some Scandinavian country compared to some ex-Soviet poor trashy area.

Now “rule of law” is on the side of genocide. Be it Palestine or Artsakh (oh, they say sometimes some official toothless things about what Azerbaijan should do without leaving it, and then it would apparently have the right to rule over Armenian land where it’s demolishing right now whole villages and towns with bulldozing cemeteries and cutting trees, they even hate trees planted by Armenians FFS).

So, for me genocide is the definite evil and “values and alliances uniting the West” or something is not the definite good to make it OK.

But there are people, sometimes sincere, who think otherwise.

This won’t be solved by petitions.

zerog_bandit,

Urgent need to release the hostages.

Yes when israel releases the 3000+ Palestinian hostages they hold in concentration camps we can reach a ceasefire.

Hyperreality,

when israel releases the 3000+ Palestinian hostages they hold in concentration camps we can reach a ceasefire.

In other words, you would rather that Israel continue bombing Gaza, than that Hamas and Israel sign a ceasefire today.

Almost as if you don't actually care about the innocent men, women and children who are dying, as you find it politically convenient the conflict continues. Especially in the run-up to the US election.

What ceasefire are you talking about? Israel has clearly stated they will not under any circumstance stop their Genocide. They are only offering a 6 week pause after they will continue their Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing of Gaza.

0x0,

Hamas and Israel sign a ceasefire

Why would two extremist groups sign a ceasefire?
