I guess it’s all about the end of what I said, I think: check myself. The very idea offends them. The inability to even acknowledge, let alone consider, the idea they could ever just…get it wrong. It’s scary. Like a giant bomb we either find a way to work together and learn how to defuse…or else.
Sure, but there is literally 0% DeSantis would live like a slave for a year. He wouldn’t do it for a week. At most he’ll spend a an hour or two posing for photos and then step into bus/trailer with a shower, AC and clean clothes before being driven home in a car that costs more than people make in a year or two.
Whole point is moot as soon as you put in a “for x days” qualifier as if you had a choice between being a slave or not. But I like that the onion article negates it by having him die while being a slave.
It wouldnt even matter if he was willing to do it for a year. Its a “common people” problem.
He would know that at any moment, he could say a word or make a call and it would stop. No slave had that ability. No slave knew their family was safe from rape or death. No slave had that certainty of safety, of health or of freedom.
His willingness to play as a slave would never be a serious situation, because it could never be anything but play.
Christopher Hitchens. He was one of the only neocons that actually went through with waterboarding, unlike Hannity and all the other right wing cowards of the day who made the same claims and then chickened out. He was a sell out and an awful person, but at least he was honest.
