christineburns, 3 months ago @juliaserano I just assumed that they embraced the idea of gametes (a word not in widespread public use) because it made them sound clever and authoritative in the eyes of people impressed by fancy words.

juliaserano, 3 months ago @christineburns yes, I'm sure that's a part of it. I've also seen some GCs authoritatively tout the SRY gene in a similar manner
