England recently banned new prescriptions for puberty blockers for trans youth, pending a study on their efficacy and safety.

Cisgender children with precocious puberty will still be able to access the drug to treat social and emotional issues associated with early puberty.

We decided a primer on what these drugs are, how they work, and what the concerns are about them would be of use.

Mira Lazine has that coverage on Assigned.

@e_urq Wait. These drugs are safe and effective to block puberty for cisgender youth, but not safe or effective for transgender youth?

@JamesBazan @e_urq Yes. And this isn't an outlier: so far every policy banning so-called "gender affirming" care has explicitly only applied to trans people and explicitly allowed the same treatment for cis people.

It's journalistic malpractice that major news networks report on "gender affirming care bans" without making this double-standard crystal clear. Everyone who pretends to think HRT is dangerous needs to be hounded on why they think it's completely safe for 98% of the population.
