Vinyl Records

atocci, in One of the more interesting parts of my vinyl collection: Flash Gordon, the movie, on vinyl

It's even in stereo!

This is what RCA called their Selectavision Video Disk. It was a real vinyl disk with dense enough data that it could be used for video playback. It was incredibly innovative, but far too late to market to make it as a viable format.

I have 4 of them in my vinyl collection and a 5th on the way!

flatcat, in What Do you all use to clean your records and players ?

I mainly use a Degritter (first generation) but have kept my VPI HW-17i vacuum around for dirtier used records and because it just does a different job than the Degritter. I also use the MoFi handheld brush or a Groovewasher for in-between cleans or to pick up dust from the platter if it's been a while since I've played anything.

Have you seen the okki Nokki One ? I had a couple of vinyl cleaned on 1 at the local shop and they're good.

FfaerieOxide, in New Generationals drop arrived a few days back, really happy with the pressing. Great from front to back!

Oh, that's gorgeous. My compliments to the press.

Vinyl records are not an investment. They will not significantly increase in value in your lifetime. There is actually a good chance that in the future 10-20+ years they will be lower in resale value when adjusted for inflation. Just because there is a hot market for something right now does not mean there will be in the future.

Buy them to enjoy, whatever that means to you.

Eisenhowever,

Thanks! This puts things in perspective

I don't buy my vinyl or other hobby items with the goal of reselling them. I try to take good care of them, but not for the purpose of selling it again later. If you think you'll sell it sometime later, then maybe you don't really enjoy it. Just open them, and enjoy your stuff.

A sealed copy will always be more valuable.

It always will?

Buy two copies! One to play. One to keep.

I personally don’t buy my records to think about future value. The value is in me listening to them.

RockNRollfantasy, in The Marshall Tucker band "running like the wind" test press vinyl. Pretty cool find, i think. One of my favorite bands.
mx_smith, in What got you into Vinyl ?

Started DJing in the early 90’s and have never stopped collecting.

Kill_joy, in Kallax was getting too full with the top 4 so I had to take the doors off the 2nd row and split them up.

Nice. What's the organization system?

Found some of my dads old records at my grandparents house and I haven’t looked back and that was probably 15+ years ago. Now he’s back into collecting too, it’s great

fosiacat, in What got you into Vinyl ?

my dad had vinyl since I was a kid, just kind of always been around… old friend gave me a turntable and mixer after I gave him a laptop, I had some records around and then whenever I go to a show I buy the album.

It was the only thing available in my youth. I am nearly 70 :-)

JimmyChanga, in What got you into Vinyl ?

I’m old, records were what I bought till they got really cheap and shitty (manufacturing wise) them cd’s, when vinyl resurfaced I was straight on it
