Hell yeah, best time with the best music!
Those were the days when we’d go out at midnight or in the early hours in the morning and party like crazy then go to work/school the next morning. After work, we’d do it all again. Great times. Love this beat. #Dance#Dancing#Music#80s#80sMusic
Next we have the CDMX-based early new wave/post-punk band Size with “GoGo Girl”. They were only together for a few short years but their impact on Mexican music is pretty undeniable #RetroView#Size#80smusic#punk
Gary Numan released Telekon, my favorite of his records, in 1980. It was the first vinyl I bought as a teen in the 90s. Hearing this intro track and the album that followed was mindblowing. Definitely listen to this whole record if you get a chance.
Here's "This Wreckage", the first song on Telekon, one of the best album opening tracks EVER:
This week's #TuneTuesday theme is #MyGenerationMusic. I was born in April of 1980, and there were SEVERAL great albums that came out that year.
But my top choice for that year has to be DEVO.
Devo released their third record Freedom of Choice in May 1980 with the magical song (and my favorite song on the album) 'Gates of Steel' opening up its second side.
On this day in 1980, the South African government banned Pink Floyd's single 'Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)' after Black children adopted the song as their anthem in protest against inferior education.
I have another one for #TuneTuesday and #SameTitleDifferentSong. This one often comes to mind for me, too. The third one is missing the 'ing' but I'm still counting it, especially since Dave played for Tom and they were friends. I love the SHIT outta all THREE of these songs.
THAT song was (and still is) so big, that nobody ever really talks about how good the album is as a whole. It’s a super-fun slice of innovative #80s#synthpop & never disappoints whenever I put it on.
Trevor Horn had a magnificent career as a producer post-Buggles, but had this been the only thing he’d ever done, that’s a career enough in itself.
Love this album so much. #vinyl#vinylrecords#80smusic#synth
PLATINUM BLONDE
Standing In The Dark
1984 Canada pressing
I had never heard of them until Id moved to #canada in ‘07, where copies of their records are abundant and in every used shop.
This is a fantastic power pop album, start to finish. Great hooky songs.
However, this is where it kinda ends for them.
After this, the band added a keyboard player, and everything got very… #80s . And not in a good way.
But there’s no denying how good THIS one is. #vinyl#vinylrecords#80smusic#newwave
Produced by Elvis Costello, it’s just one of those classic endlessly playable and FUN albums.
I can’t spin this without immediately wanting to hear The Selecter’s Too Much Pressure afterward.
So that’s probably hitting the table after this gem. #vinyl#vinylrecords#80s#80smusic#ska#TheSpecials
One of my favorite female artists, & a total comfort album for me.
Sometime around 2001, Suzanne did a meet & greet/in-store performance at the record store I worked at in Harvard Square (it’s sadly no longer there).
She was so incredibly wonderful; staying for much longer than she needed to. She met every fan, signed everything, & hung out with us staff afterwards & told us dirty jokes. She’s the best. #vinyl#vinylrecords#80s#80smusic
Happy birthday to rocker @DeeSnider of Twisted Sister. The band had a pair of hits in 1984 "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock". #80s#80smusic#1980s
