About time. I do wish they’d invalidate it through the legislature and just repeal the law entirely, but WI is way too gerrymandered for that to be possible.
I have to admire his work ethic. He took that job so he could help destroy the UW system and, while a lot of progress has been made, he hasn’t finished that task yet.
Another fun fact about Major Bong, he’s also got a bridge named after him! Its also taller than the other bridge into Wisconsin so it’s commonly referred to as the “High Bridge”.
@steinbring both of my wonderful pups are from the south: Tennessee and Alabama respectively.
Both were grossly mistreated, with one being denied veterinary care after having one of his hind legs crushed. It healed some, but it points the wrong direction now. 🥺
My Cito (the black lab in the front) came up from Kentucky. I was told at the time that the Wisconsin Humane Society gets a lot of dogs from the South because Wisconsinites adopt and Southerners just don't.
I think it’s because in some places they put the animals to sleep, other places don’t so they send the animals to other places so they don’t have to put them to sleep hoping they will be adopted
It’s going to cost them millions upon millions, take 5-10 years and they will only install like 4…and 3 will be broken within a week and never repaired.
Like with most things, I’m cautiously optimistic. It will probably take longer than necessary, for sure. But businesses being able to get money another way might evoke some motivation to get it done. I just don’t know about the demand right now. I see a few electric cars around, but the cold reduces the distance, so I personally think that WI just won’t have as many electric cars. Maybe plug-in hybrids though.
And it’s a bit of a chicken and egg. Maybe more stations would encourage people to consider electric vehicles.
This headline rubs me the wrong way, since I accuse the media in general of having a conservative bias, or at least unconsciously presenting most stories using right-wing framing of the issues. This headline is a good case and point. They should have just said “Wisconsin justice,” or simply Protasiewicz, as the issue doesn’t have anything to do with her alleged political leanings, except in right-wing rhetoric.
Indeed, I have to go back to August in search on Google News to find a mention of a “conservative justice.” AP News has published tons of articles about “liberal justices,” or “liberals” on the Court. The articles that they have published about conservative justices just call them “justices.” As if that’s the default.
I mean, you could make the argument that the balance of the Court tipped in the last election, so the obsessive mention of “liberal” (especially by AP News) is highlighting the contrast. But lots of those news headlines I found were about Gableman, or Prosser, both of whom engaged in transparently partisan activities. Yet, they are just “former justices.”
I was reading the article and was very confused on why they asked her to recuse herself because they don’t mention her being involved in the case at all. Terrible reporting by AP which is disappointing.
Great point! I had assumed that the case pertained to the 2023 election in which Protasiewicz was on the ballot, so they were alleging some sort of ripple of evil that made the whole state-wide election suspect. But no, I see now that the suit was filed in 2022.
@JackFromWisconsin I feel like back in the 90s these types of conversations happened nearly weekly in our High School Chemistry class with our regular teacher. Substitutes, woa nelly you better hang on!
Can Wisconsin just put a warrant out for the Oklahoma government official that runs that account already for aiding and abetting terrorists? Or at least slander.
Smart move. That reminds me of the old parable by Twitter user @iamragesparkle:
I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, “no. get out.”
And the dude next to me says, “hey i’m not doing anything, i’m a paying customer.” and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, “out. now.” and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed
Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn’t see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.”
And i was like, ohok and he continues.
“you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it’s always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don’t want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.
And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it’s too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.”
And i was like, ‘oh damn.’ and he said “yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people.”
And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven’t forgotten that at all.
