@Aesculapius beautiful!
OT, but love your username. I have a tattoo of the Rod of Aesculapius/Asclepius. Do you happen to know Panacea??
pinkraisons, Looks really good. How do you like the tung oil?
Aesculapius, ![]()
Loved it. It's the first time I had tried a drying oil as a finish. It really made the grain pop and gave it a richer color than I thought it would. I got mine from Rockler which comes unthinned. I put the first coat on 50/50 with mineral spirits and the second coat unthinned. It was much easier to use thinned than not.
pinkraisons, I'll have to give it a try. David J Marks used to have a woodworking TV show that I would watch when I was starting out and he used it for everything.

More details:
- The african mahogany has a continuous grain pattern all around the box.
- It was made with simple miter joints and the splines you see on the image.
- The bottom is also made with maple.
- The inner walls are maple that were friction fit.
- Finished with tung oil.
- I had to make 2 jigs for this: a cross cut sled with an edge for the 45 degree cuts and a spline jig.
floppingfish, Sounds great. Could you please show pictures of the jigs?

Here’s the spline jig. I don’t have a current pic of the sled. I had to modify it. I’ll get that up later today. (excuse the mess)

Sorry for the delay

It's a beautiful box! Can we get the fiesta corn dip recipe too though?

Hah! I'll have to ask. It was a bridal shower gift for my daughter and she took it home. The guests were given a blank card ahead of time.
