I am still in shock that the Bears were able to get Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze last night. I had hoped for it but was not expecting it. For pick 75 I hope they go either OL or Edge. Just not sure which is the bigger need.

The Chicago Bears drafted quarterback Caleb Williams out of USC with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2024/04/26/more-sports/caleb-williams-chicago-bears-draft/

Huh, the new Bears proposal for a stadium is... wildly different than I expected :otter_peek: I really like what the renders did with the old Soldier Field columns (and frankly, the UFO they landed inside of it was always a massively ugly waste of money). I feel mostly ambivalent on the proposal I think, provided taxpayers aren't on the hook for it.

If this proposal actually happens, civic leaders from the south side really should lobby hard for the CTA to revisit the Gold Line proposal to take part of the existing Metra electric right-of-way and turn it into a rapid transit corridor. If the city really wants to revitalize the lakefront and drive tourism, they should focus on increasing access between the lakefront parks (the stupid bean/Millennium Park, Grant Park, etc), the Museum Campus (the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Planetarium, Soldier Field), McCormick Place, and Jackson Park (the Museum of Science and Industry and the new Barack Obama Presidential Library). Plus the Gold Line could be used to bring a valuable link for south lake shore communities between the Loop all the way down to South Chicago. :vg_puro_shrug: Seems like a win/win to me.

Side note: Also, boost the Green Line back to Jackson Park like it used to be :neofox_what: It'd make for a great transfer point for people between the Gold Line and the Green Line.

" told The Pivot Podcast that when the traded they did not have his medicals yet."

I mean that would be crazy, right? Unless they are not taking him. I stand by my improbable dream. Justin is coming back. They are working a trade down with the .

It's the final week and the with the 2nd overall pick have completely fucked up their QB search. They have a ton of good picks this year. Now's the time . Let them move up and take for a bunch of those picks. Take and get back from the Steelers. Give them something for helping you pull this off. Keep building through the draft. That's what works long-term.

The podcast has been trying to be nice about the situation, but they are pissed just like me. I'm hoping for something very unexpected next week. It feels very feast or famine right now. Ok ain't gonna cut it.

so annoyed traded Justin. they should have just traded down with WAS and taken MHJ.

I've seen do everything they tell me makes great. I've seen the highlights. Justin is more elusive, taller, stronger, faster. His long ball is more accurate. I'm not hearing that Caleb is an amazing pocket passer, which Justin struggled with but got better at as his protection and WRs improved. Why waste a top pick on what will be at best, a small improvement. The only argument that makes sense is the contract reset, but that's temporary. Damnit .

If you're bad enough to earn an early pick in the draft and take a QB, you have to focus everything else you have around helping them succeed. Primarily OL and WRs. And a proven OC who can call plays. Otherwise, unless they are generational, they will be hurt, lose their confidence or look like such shit that everyone will demand a new QB and offensive coordinator when their contract renewal comes up. This should be obvious. Damn did the fuck .

“The funky thing about the NFL draft process is, he’d almost be better off not being drafted than being drafted first. The system is completely backward. The way the system is constructed, you go to the worst possible situation. The worst possible team, the worst organization in the league — because of their desire for parity — gets the first pick. So it’s the gift and the curse.”

The situation solved this problem for him but I hate this attitude.

I still think there's a chance is the starting QB this year. That temporarily moving him to Pittsburgh was part of a plot to get the to give them a ton of their picks this year to move up one spot to get . I'm pathetic.

Should former governor Quinn succeed, a nonbinding referendum would ask voters on Nov. 5: “Shall the people of Chicago provide any taxpayer subsidies to the or the in order to build a stadium or a real estate development?” https://news.wttw.com/2024/03/27/chicagoans-should-vote-using-taxpayer-money-bears-and-white-sox-stadiums-ex-gov-quinn

Everybody admits had no support and did well with what he was given. That he handled it in the media better than anybody could expect. His teammates loved him. And now just as the were surrounding him with talent, they trade him for an unknown quantity. And we only have this top pick because last year's top sure thing QB didn't turn out that way. I don't fucking get it.

Greatest 3-peats in Chicago sports history

  1. Chicago Bulls 91-93 championships
  2. Chicago Bulls 96-98 championships
  3. Chicago Bears screwing up the development of three consecutive QBs (Trubisky, Fields, Williams)

A bungle from the beginning to its inglorious end.

Chicago Bears trade Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, paving the way to draft a quarterback with the No. 1 pick https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/03/16/chicago-bears-trade-justin-fields/

A publicly owned dome on the Chicago lakefront that both the and played in, with massive funding from both teams could work. Make all the permanent fixtures about Chicago, with lots of huge screens for branding that would change based on who was using it at the time. It would have to be designed to be as welcoming as possible to concerts and other big events. And make it easier to get to. Chicago is still just such a great location. Possibly better with climate change.

Maintaining the confusion over whether the are keeping or taking a new QB in the draft sucks for him, but it's also the best way to maximize the value of the top pick till they can trade it away for the most possible help for Justin in regards to WRs and OL. Or at least that's how I'd justify it to him.

Trading the top pick gets the so much more than the improvement of Caleb over Fields could be. It's also a way to hedge your bet. One player who might be good or bad vs multiple players who have that same level of unpredictability. They also might get a proven player in the exchange. Recall how last year, they got DJ Moore and a bevy of picks for the top pick that ended up being the so far disappointing consensus number one Bryce Young.

IMO the want to keep and draft . But without any 2nd round picks, they really want more than a WR for that top pick. It's expected AZ will take MHJ at 4th overall if they can, before the Bears pick again at 9th.

So they're left with only two possible trade partners if their top priority is MHJ. They need WASH (2nd) and NE (3rd) to fear the Bears want their preferred QB so they'll offer a ton to move up. That's the misdirection Poles is selling.

It's weird but nice to hear people talk about how could really help their team. That their team has all the other pieces in place to get the most out of him. He totally could. He's great. It's an acknowledgement that what's missing with the is the supporting staff, something that maximizing the trade value of that 1st overall pick could do a lot to help us rectify. Love the talk but hate it too.
