glad you're here on the #SocialWeb. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. journalists should be clamoring for the level of independence it allows their writing to go viral, right? do you think the smaller audience is the main reason more writers are not here? thanks.

based on the most recent AI demos, captchas are no barrier for bots now, right? my understanding is they haven't really been used for that purpose for a while but let's stop pretending.

Have any government folks enabled fedi sharing on ? Or official news org accounts? Looking at journalists and pundits etc, it feels completely random (and strangely limited). I see no pattern.

I would replace "caused" with "greatly contributed to", but otherwise I think this is correct.

@joeinwynnewood

our policy re Ukraine contributed to that war as well. the US is just still constantly fucking around, (and as the world becomes more multipolar) we are finding out.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@joeinwynnewood @paninid

my view is nations generally want to be independent of outside influence and pursue their own interests. the US acted in Ukraine to get them on our side and not Russia's. we were pursuing a process of getting them into NATO and the EU, and while most details were hidden, the leaked Nuland call proves we were involved in that undemocratic change of govt in 2014. this lead to civil war in the east and training/arms. Russia acted as we would if this happened in Mexico.

primarily I want to share one id/account. we don't need separate private messaging here. when people try to do that, it should be a matrix conversation. etc.

I didn't think the death of the president of was that big of a deal since he didn't have much power, especially compared to the prime minister and supreme leader. but this guy was the assumed next supreme leader, the most powerful person in that country. the current supreme leader had been president previously. ugh.

I guess it's good that #Assange won this case against extradition to the #uspol but I think what's happening to him currently might be worse than the alternative. He's in a state of suspended animation, never knowing what his future will be or when the next steps will be taken. Psychological torture in addition to the physical condition he is kept in. Actually being in the US would put pressure on the government to prove what's so much worse about what he did compared to other journalists. IDK.

On a night like tonight, how utterly stupid is it that governments and news organizations don't have their own #mastodon and #peertube servers. Instead they let tech mega corps and even cable companies stand between them and an informed public. Fucking ridiculous. #SocialWeb #Iran

I assume it's cause we're not a big enough audience yet but this kinda independence is pretty basic to their missions. they should be leading the revolution. and could if they did it together.

Once upon a time, the of was a pilot. On top of speaking 4+ languages and piloting state of the art F-16s. He was a flawed leader but he was objectively better than the that have kept Iran captive for decades and destabilized the Middle East.

A meme that is also historical fact. Once upon a time, the ruler of our country was a pilot himself and visited construction projects like this. On top of speaking 4+ languages and piloting state of the art F-16s.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@kambiz

wasn't he a dictator supported by the US, after we helped the UK coup their democracy cause they wouldn't be subservient to us economically (cheap oil)? I guess he was better than the current govt but responsibility for that destabilization has to laid at the hands of those who interfere in foreign countries. the ripple effects go on for decades when you don't let countries determine what works for them. either directly via coup etc or continual pressure.

Conspiracy media is journalism run backwards. The narratives come first, and the news is chosen to reinforce it. It's always spun in one direction. Instead of reporting on a wide variety of issues and giving you multiple guesses from different angles re why it might matter. In the latter, you have to do the work of reporting. And understand a subject or the world well enough to make sense of new events. With the former, you find people who agree with you and entertain them.

Democracy is the political expression of mob rule, in which the majority group can impose its will with impunity on minority groups.

Progressives - the people whose ideology is based on lifting up minorities above all others - are coincidentally also the ones who shout the loudest about "preserving our democracy". The cognitive dissonance from this is only possible to reconcile if you either lack the ability to think about it rationally, or you have no integrity to get in the way of your double-standard.

@osc3r @ryan @Meachamus_Prime @threalist

an AI programmed and managed by greedy people?

the US govt was specifically designed to allow competing interests to balance each other for the good of all. not perfect. never could be. built to be revised over time. but imo it's less broken than the wholesale alternatives I've seen proposed would be. and I think most people don't have actual alternatives but are forwarding this "broken" narrative cause they just don't want to have to play fair.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@Meachamus_Prime @osc3r @ryan @threalist

I don't think you're greedy. you're elitist. you think the lessers are fucking up the country by voting poorly. I think the fight to make our country better than it is, is fundamentally always about most people recognizing that we have more in common than we think. and that we don't get that because the very rich (who own the media etc) propagandize us so we won't recognize that the economic system could be better for most people and worse for them.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika @ryan @osc3r @Meachamus_Prime @threalist

everybody thinks most people are voting poorly. I don't think they are lessers. you do and the left who thought Hillary had a point do. that's the propaganda winning imo. hate is good for your goals and ratings. but bad for DEMOCRACY.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@sj_zero @amerika @ryan @osc3r @Meachamus_Prime @threalist

having people around who know how to do stuff well is what the permanent state is all about (I separate them from the deep state whose oversight is severely limited). executive agencies and long term staff etc. they tend to regulate the mega corps and rich people who would fully control the world without any democratic government. but you guys hate them. me thinks you didn't come to that position naturally.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika @ryan @osc3r @Meachamus_Prime @sj_zero @threalist

clear rules written by a well informed Congress that can work together and wants a functioning government would be great. the first two parts are not what political media wants today. the last part is opposed mostly by conservatives who want to continue to paint DC as dysfunctional, but both sides play this game when the other party is in power. it's why we must fix the media and why I want to break the duopoly w/ #RankedChoiceVoting.
