Our industry has a death-by-a-thousand-cuts problem with subscription fees.
Cloud services, software fees, memberships, paid-tiers, pay for commercial use, paid plugins & themes, etc, etc.
For small, solo, part-time, or freelance developers this adds up really fast to untenable levels. 💰
So far I've managed to keep this in check, despite there being a lot of things I'd love to use in my work. I seek out free or #FOSS options when I can.
We think of developers as having the money for these things. But not all of us work full time or for companies with IT budgets. Not all clients have deep pockets. As a consultant, every $9 fee I pay is $9 less for my family.
TBH... #HoneyBadger dropping their free tier right when I just discovered & started using them on some small projects... sucks.
Despite my efforts, even I'm slowly gathering a ball of fees, like a katamari of expenses. Roll on long enough & you pick them up.
Today's coolest animal you probably never heard of - the honey badger. An animal with skin so thick it's resistant to bee stings, snake bites, porcupine quills and machetes. (Yes, machetes.) Steals food from leopards. Will not back down from a fight with any animal, including hyenas, lions and Cape buffalo. That's not to say it will win, but as Casual Geographic on You Tube says of them 'they'll die before they care.' #HoneyBadger
