@uswnt "The biggest advantage the US has over the rest of the world is their mindset" IDK I've seen pretty persuasive arguments that our biggest advantage is Title IX
(even if we're now getting players like Trinity and Alyssa Thompson skipping college and even high schoolers like Moultrie and Ricketts)
were i to fly into seattle solo for the october 6 rapinoe appreciation game/weekend, is there a preferred section where i should buy tickets & an ideal neighborhood where i should stay? #nwsl#uswnt#olreign
I'm guessing I will want to post a lot during the upcoming World Cup, so I'm experimenting with having a soccer-only alt. Follow me over at @rob for soccer stuff, I'll just boost a little bit of it back here.
The latest episode of *Full Time with Meg Linehan *has a great interview with Sam Mewis about FIFPRO - the global association of soccer player associations and unions:
I love how often Meg features collective organizing on her podcast. One of my favorite podcast episodes of all time was her breakdown of the (then-new) NWSL CBA with NWSLPA president Meghann Burke:
First, the back line. Snubbing Tierna is a choice. We have one (1) option with recent CB experience in major tournament play and we're not bringing her?
What's the backup plan if Girma or Cook can't handle things? "Move Ertz to CB"? Ok, but she's still recovering from injury+childbirth.
The backup plan's Sonnett, isn't it? I enjoy chaos as much as anyone but Sonnett-for-Sauerbrunn is *not *a like for like.
@uswnt The Tierna thing is probably my biggest complaint. I was actually hoping that Vlatko would snub an Ashley, just for selfish spirit purposes, but I'm surprised Hatch is the one he snubbed. He called her in for so many camps! She continues to do exactly the kinds of things he always asked her to do!
I've never rated Hatch all that high but the last minute change is surprising.
@uswnt Speaking of last minute changes: I am really excited for Aubrey. Is she going to get to play at all? No. Are we going to miss her badly on the Spirit? Yes.
But this is her last chance at a major tournament and I'm glad she's getting the experience. She deserves it. If coaches made playing decisions based purely on form she'd be starting those World Cup games.
Also happy for Kristie for similar reasons, although presumably Kristie will actually get to play.
@uswnt Other thoughts, other thoughts.... maybe if Ertz gets moved to CB Andi will get more minutes. That'd be cool, although a bad sign for the US's chances.
We have so many more outside backs than centerbacks. I get bringing Sonnett as a utility player, but Huerta and O'Hara instead of Tierna? (Sorry I'm still stuck on Tierna.)
Maybe this means we'll see Dunn in midfield? (Just kidding, we'll never see Dunn in midfield.)
