So what happens if Lindsey Horan doesn't start? Does someone die? Does the timeline collapse and the world world implode? Who is holding the USWNT hostage and what do they have against Lindsey Horan's knee
Okay, if I'm the coach I'm subbing out Horan, Fox, and maybe Coffey at the half. Bring in Purce or Krueger for Fox, Demelo for Coffey or Horan.
As grueling as this first half was, it's always pretty normal to see a team set up in a low block against us. We need people who can dribble/pass through traffic, so Purce definitely, Demelo probably. Lavelle obviously but I feel like we're looking for solutions in addition to Lavelle.
Apparently Purce for Fox is a concussion sub which is terrible fucking news, Fox has had two concussions already. Also she hit her head like five minutes into the first half, why are they only taking her out now
Reading this superb Andscape (still dislike the name! Still a great source for profiles!) piece on the excellent Mia Fishel. It reprints all of the dumb things Andonovski said about her and about Liga MX Femenil, and whew, the racism isn't obvious at all, nope.
ANYWAY, Emma Hayes wasn't a fool about Fishel, and that's working out OK so far!
Hi, I'm over here screaming EMAA HAYES! EMMA!! HAYES!!!! OMG EMMA!!!!!!!!! HAYES!!!!!! But I'm so worried that great club managers have a damned hard time at the national level. (Also, I've enjoyed cheering for Chelsea, and ... hm. )
This seems like really good analysis of the USWNT. Carly Lloyd and Alexi Lawless need to learn how to talk about the game this way instead of ad hominem attacks.
I will give Twila Kilgore a very small amount of credit: this is a marginally more interesting lineup than Wednesday's. At least Murphy and Demelo get the start.
But it's still pretty damn boring. Does Twila really see herself as a total placeholder coach who should show no creativity whatsoever? Or does she think this is the way to advance?
Ooof. Thompson on the breakaway gets taken down by a Colombia player like this is American football. Nowhere near the ball, just bodies her. The ref goes for the yellow immediately.
Julie (Foudy, announcer) points out that easily could have been a red
Coming back to this post from early in the second half - I wonder if Colombia was just playing less defensively in the second half. That could explain both their increased offensive chances and how the US was finally able to break through and score a trio of goals after three scoreless halves.
