The #CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup is starting up tonight. #Mexico vs #Argentina currently on, then #USWNT vs #DominicanRepublic at 10:15pm ET. You can watch on Paramount+ if you haven't canceled your #NWSL subscriptions already
The #USWNT gets a goal called back but a few minutes later get one for real: Midge Purce has been feasting on the right side so far, slides a ball across the goal for Moultrie. It's Moultrie's first ever international goal.
Another fun fact from the announcers: this is Captain Becky's 16th year with a USWNT callup.
One sub for the US: Fox for Sonnett. Fox is a very different RB from Sonnett - a specialist as opposed to Sonnett who is an emily of all trades. ;) Interesting commentary from the announcers on how this changes the rotations.
And, seemingly out of nowhere, a PK. Nighswonger takes it and sinks it.
It's a bummer for DR, who have played really hard and who did not commit a particularly egregious foul. But I'm glad to see some of the #USWNT youngsters get PK experience.
Well that was definitely a less fun game than last time. I don't mind the lack of cohesion at all - that's the risk you take when you try a bunch of new things, and it's always a slog when a team sets up in a low block against you. But Aubrey's error and Emily Fox's possible concussion really put a damper on the night for me. :(
