These European larch are an exception among their kind. They shed their needles in autumn, which turn yellow, red and brown before dropping. It is the only conifer in Europe to do this.
It is sometimes called the mountain oak, because of the exceptional wood it produces. Slow-growing, it is the most durable and strongest of the coniferous woods.
Rot-proof, it is used for boat design, roofing frames, shingles and railway sleepers.

The great tit is the largest of the chickadees and is easily identified by its cap, throat and black tie, the latter being thicker in males than in females. Its cheeks are white and the rest of its plumage is yellow or yellow-green, except for its wings and tail, which are black.
It is a sedentary and widespread species. It is found almost everywhere, in deciduous forests as well as in woods and gardens.
Immense soft structures have proliferated on the surface of the earth following massive falls of elongated meteorites of unknown nature. Experts in stellar geology are taking precautions to analyze the risk.
Some areas are especially subject to the influence of the wind, and in particular strong prevailing winds, i.e. those blowing most often from a privileged direction.
Unlike animals, plants cannot escape these winds. From the moment they germinate until they die out, they are constantly subject to the effects of this ecological factor.
Rather shy, the Oak Jay is impossible to confuse. It sports rufous buff plumage with white and black wings, and beautiful blue feathers with black streaks. Its black whiskers are clearly visible, and its wings appear very rounded. Its white rump can be seen in flight.
The Jay feeds on acorns, which it carries quite far, thus helping to spread the oak tree, but it also takes fruit, passerine eggs, insects... They sometimes even visit feeders.
Making food available to birds during the winter helps them to survive the cold season, when food is scarcer in the wild.
Feeding also allows us to contemplate wildlife, create a bond with nature and generate empathy towards these animals. Birds are not shy. They approach houses without too much fear, so you can observe them from a window.
The compact disc was introduced in 1982 and became in 1988 the most popular audio format. CD sales continued to grow until they peaked in 2002.
In 2003 CD sales began to decline and have been rapidly falling ever since. By 2017, CD sales had reached the same level as 1985!
Digital streaming has made it easy to instantly enjoy new music from around the world. It’s fast. It’s convenient. It’s one of the best ways for artists to get their music discovered.
But it’s unfortunately not really profitable.
2021 marked the first increase in new CD sales in 17 years! Artists have embraced CDs as a physical representation of their music, drawing in new collectors and fans. CDs have experienced a remarkable comeback, reaffirming their position as a timeless and treasured format in the music industry.
Car chases are a popular subject with media and audiences due to their intensity, drama and the innate danger of high-speed driving, and thus are common content in fiction, particularly action films.
Although car chases on film were staged as early as the motor vehicle itself, the consensus among historians and film critics is that the first modern car chase movie was 1968's Peter Yates movie Bullitt, staring Steve McQueen and his famous Ford Mustang GT Fastback.
The common starling, also known as the European starling in North America and simply as the starling in Great Britain and Ireland, is a medium-sized passerine bird.
It has glossy black plumage with a metallic sheen, which is speckled with white at some times of year.
A highly social species, starlings live in groups that can sometimes number several thousand or even millions of individuals.
It is also known for its vocal abilities, which enable it to imitate with great precision the vocalisations of other individuals, whether of the same species or not, as well as non-biological noises from its environment.
The Haute Vallée de la Clarée is a wild and magnificent setting above the village of Névache, in the Cerces massif (Hautes-Alpes). It's particularly beautiful in autumn, when the larch forests take on shimmering colors.
Here, the Moutet stream flows into the Clarée, which continues down the valley towards Névache, towards the Durance.
The Durance is a much weaker torrent than its tributaries the Clarée and the Guisane, which are nonetheless very small in comparison. If the name Durance predominates over those of these two torrents, it is probably because the Durance valley is an important and ancient communication route, whereas the Clarée and Guisane valleys are dead ends.
This gentian is endemic to the Dauphiné region of France. It is very similar to Gentiana verna but differs in that its leaves are lanceolate, acute and relatively long.
The Chardonnet stream is a tributary of the Clarée River.
Not far from here, a steep path crosses the scree of the Queyrellin ridge between Côte Martine and Les Rifs and leads down to a series of chalets and a small chapel, back in the Clarée valley.

The European green woodpecker spends much of its time feeding on ants on the ground and does not often 'drum' on trees like other woodpecker species.
Both sexes are green above and pale yellowish green below, with yellow rump and red crown and nape; the moustachial stripe has a red centre in the male but is solid black in the female.
Though its vivid green and red plumage is particularly striking, it is a shy bird, and is more often heard than seen, drawing attention with its loud calls.

Larches are deciduous conifers in the genus Larix, of the family Pinaceae.
Growing from 20 to 45 metres tall, they are native to the cooler regions of the northern hemisphere, where they are found in lowland forests in the high latitudes, and high in mountains further south.
Although they are conifers, larches are deciduous trees that lose their needles in the autumn.

The magnificent Fontcouverte cascade on La Clarée river, near Névache, is a protected site. The cascade takes its name from a miraculous spring that was partly hidden and covered by a bush: “the covered fountain”.
