I'm still enjoying many aspects of #RedDeadRedemption but parts of it are becoming a bit of a drag:
—the constant mistreatment of women and lack of agency they have in this game, in contrast even to the real "Old West." Why don't any of the sex workers join the poker tables, just for example? At least a couple of women made a name for themselves as gamblers back then. And don't get me started on how poorly the game's handful of gay men are treated.
—The side quests (from "Strangers") are a drag and don't really add to the game. Most of the time, they leave my character feeling like he doesn't have much agency or ability to positively affect events. You gather flowers for an old man's wife, but it turns out she's a mummified corpse. You rescue an abused woman, but then her abuser kills her anyway (somehow while she's supposed to be at a guarded convent?). You help start a movie studio only to find out the star cowboy ran off to Canada with the camera man and the studio collapsed. Why bother? These quests could have added a little brightness to the game but just make it feel more nihilistic.
—Sometimes the controls get janky but its a 10 year old game converted to Switch so I can cut some slack.
I still really enjoy riding around, the ambiance and beautiful lighting, and shooting stuff is pretty fun. #rdr#games#NintendoSwitch
I'm still playing #RedDeadRedemption and overall enjoying it. I made it to Mexico not long ago. My biggest complaint, and the biggest way this game shows its age in my opinion, is how female characters primarily exist only to be kidnapped and threatened with sexual assault. Well #RedDeadRedemption seems glitchy on Switch. Every few minutes, I get told I failed to stop some horse theft, and these two random dudes on horseback won't stop crowding me in Thieves Landing. All this started last night. Not game breaking yet but annoying. #rdr#NintendoSwitch
I started #RedDeadRedemption and am playing on my sick day. I turned on headphone sound mode and goddamn for a 13 year old game on #NintendoSwitch it is still incredibly immersive. The lighting and audio landscape are just so well done. I feel like I am running around #WestWorld. #rdr#games
So far my favorite #rdr mechanic is how if you press the action button at the right moment, you politely say howdy to folks and they say it back. It doesn't seem like you can pet the dogs but you can talk to them like they're people.
