I'm at #PAA2024. If you want to meet up, let me know.
Also, I'll be giving a talk on Saturday in the last session (Migration Around the World) on how population-level educational attainment affects individual-level wages, with a special focus on nativity (domestic- vs- foreign born).
Note: This is a good paper, but I only got this slot because everyone else has to be at the airport then. So I'm a little afraid for the attendance.
New paper from me and Jill Hamm! The title tells you everything you need to know: "Network Position Affects Social Status in Early Adolescence." #sociology#sociodon@sociology
I'll try and post a preprint and write things up a bit better soon.
Hey #sociologists#sociodon@sociology
I had a student ask me about Isabel Wilkerson's book "Caste". Have any of you read it? Is it consistent with sociological research on race and racism? (I'm hoping it is good, #sociology could use some accessible writing)
This line in Barbara Baig's writing book triggered a memory: "most adults are very self-conscious about learning anything new."
Years ago I took an ink painting class at my local arts center. A middle-aged woman cried because she wasn't immediately good at it. To me this is a convincing case for #ungrading.
Final grades for my summer class submitted today! Any post-teaching recovery ideas? I still have small deadlines but whew it feels good to wrap an intensive daily class. 🙌
Manuscript word limits (or page limits) for #sociology and related journals. I spent way too long on this. I didn't finish and there were a couple I couldn't find, but hopefully this will be useful to someone else anyway.
