The ingredients of a cosmological mystery: Big Ring, Giant Arc, Sloan Great Wall, South Pole Wall, Clowes-Campusano Large Quasar Group, Laniakea Supercluster, the dark flow, Sir Roger Penrose's Conformal Cyclic Cosmology, cosmic strings, ... https://www.space.com/big-ring-galactic-superstructure-celestial-anomaly
Check out our paper on the vast expanses discovered and charted by our Cosmicflows research program, published recently in the Cosmo of ’69 Cosmology Blog. Many thanks to Jenny Wagner and her team for their invitation to write in this new venue.
The South Pole Wall is one of the largest structure of the Universe. Hidden behind the dusty disk of our own galaxy, in the so called Zone of Galactic Obscuration, in the direction of the celestial south, it was discovered by our research program, by analyzing the influence it exerts on the velocity of nearby galaxies.
In this video https://youtu.be/3wEW_DiC80E, Dr. Maggie Lieu reports on this discovery, and explains why things like these are important!
