🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 I'm trying to actually research the entries before I select them for the "matchmaking" lottery for meet and greets, so I have that page open in one window and a google search for each creator on the other (especially since Vidcon puts sh-all info next to the names themselves) but the bleeping thing keeps timing out with NO WARNING, erasing everything so I have to start all over again?? What tf is the point of the "Saving" feature at the bottom when it DOESN'T SAVE??? How is this Vidcon's 13th annual show yet they STILL are so incompetent at designing a functional website??????????? (there are so many other problems with the website I could name, this is but one...and so many problems with the organization of the con as a whole)
going through the list of who I'm trying to get in "matchmaking" for the meet and greets at #vidcon seems intimidating, until I remove from consideration all the minecraft let's players, mr beast-style screaming competition hosts, and "reaction" scum 😄

This year's #vidcon goal is to become mutual social media followers with big creators I've had hours-long in-person conversations with and NOT have them unfollow me as soon as the convention ends.
#vidcon just sent an email announcing a bunch of their #contentCreator / #influencer "special guests" and I'm flabbergasted to announce I've actually heard of two of them... Albeit just because I heard them speak at panels during last year's vidcon and they seemed cool 😂
omg. I'm on the #vidcon site right now typing out a panel submission (I want to run a workshop for small creators to meet each other, though given the capitalism-unfriendly nature of my content I doubt vidcon would bother even reading my submission) and I HATE their site layout...their header and footer alone take up 2/3rds of the screen so you can barely see the content in the middle, and they have a rotating graphic of sponsors at the bottom that is very distracting 😠 How can a con with tens of thousands of attendees each year still be so bad at marketing?!
Just bought my pass for #vidcon (the creator pass for $155, because paying $700 just to rub noses with corporations there to make money off already-famous 'influencers' 🤮 is insane) and it's still six months off but I'm already having fun planning out my list of things to pack...
I'll have to ride a plane again which, eek, so I can't take TOO much stuff (and last time on my way home they lost my bag for a day which sent me into paroxisms of terror that my laptop was lost...) but this time I'm gonna try to plan cute outfits (if I can figure out what "cute" is) instead of just wearing my plain white handmade Topless equality-themed shirts, and a small backpack for carrying my camera instead of stuffing it in a purse... Though they were real weird about allowing backpacks of any size (despite them already having bag checkers at every entrance??) so idk, we'll see..
Currently going out of my way to find the #socialMedia accounts of people I intentionally started following at #vidcon to catch up with their posts, instead of getting lost in the stream of "suggested posts" that the mainstream platform #algorithms think I should see first simply because they already have thousands/millions of likes and #engagement 🤬
#Mastodon tried hard to kneecap social discovery on the #Fediverse in the name of preventing toxicity and abuse.
Little did they know that lack of social discovery would be a catalyst for toxicity and abuse.
It’s this lack of social discovery that causes Reply Guys to randomly pop into threads with neither sensitivity nor context, demanding people educate them on things when they’re called out on bad behaviour.
If only these people would read threads before talking—but they don’t because social discovery is kneecapped on Mastodon.

an addendum to this idea, which I agree with (hence the boost). I understand that a lot of masto users want to keep their posts from being easily searchable outside of their pre-approved pool--and that's great, more power to them. certainly I have posts sometimes I don't want any random person seeing and turning into a "reply guy" on.
but on th he other hand, some of us WANT our posts to show up for others, namely #contentCreators like me. I don't put 20+ hours into filming a video essay extolling the values of #feminism, #lgbtq#genderEquality, etc for just a small handful of existing supporters to watch. and people who are interested in finding more material on a certain subject (outside of programming and infosec 😜) are going to quickly give up on mastodon if every time they search for something like, say, #vidcon, they get no results.
if the goal is really to encourage others to leave "siloed" mainstream platforms, there has to be content here to fill the void that the corrupt platforms currently fill (at the expense of personal data and arbitrary #censorship). it's like saying "don't go to McDonald's, come to this amazing mom. and pop restaurant instead!" but there is no visible menu and you have to know someone who knows someone that knows what the restaurant offers to even order food in the first place.
BTW putting hashtags in front of things like I did in this post makes me want to vomit, because it feels like I'm trying to be a sell out, but I have to do it if I want to open up the conversation for people who don't already follow @atomicpoet or people who boost him?)
tried to watch some more content from the #vidcon "featured creators" and just about threw up in my mouth. hey, I'm two decades older than online video's current Gen z target demographic, and I accept that. it's a pity the channels I am such a fan of, that work so hard on producing such quality content, don't get the same corporate support that cheerfully shouting attractive teenagers with click bait titles and dizzying jump cuts get, but that's capitalism, baby.
