September 15, 1902, the interior of the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Skagway, Alaska after a bank robber tried to rob it by brandishing dynamite in one hand and a revolver in the other. At one point, the bandit started firing . . . and there were ramifications. In 1916, Lena Morrow Lewis (1868-1950) was the Socialist candidate for Alaska's non-voting representative to Congress, making her the first Alaskan woman to run for federal office. She received 10% of the vote. #alaskahistory #alaska

Thanks to a generous gift, I now have a digital copy of the rare 1976 film Pipe Dreams, Gladys Knight's first acting role. The movie is set amidst the construction of the Alaska Pipeline and was shot on location in Alaska. #alaskahistory #alaska

An Alaska landscape woodblock print by Sumio Kawakami (1895-1972). Born in Yokohama, he spent part of 1917 to 1918 working in America and Canada, including at an Alaska cannery, before returning to Japan. From a reprint of his Alaska Story collection. #alaskahistory #alaska
