reflecting on the bear-or-man discourse

and thinking about how my good dog protected me, over the years, from both bears and men

she faced down my violent ex-husband when he tried to kick in the door of my house

and a bear that tried to walk through our camp one night, up the Skok

and this makes me think that really what women need isn't an array of bad choices

it's to be supported so that we have the freedom and resources to be out in the world safely

also, dogs are pretty great

Alaska colds hit differently than Midwestern colds. In Wisconsin I'd catch a cold and be sniffly or stuffy but otherwise can still before basic tasks: going into work sick wasn't uncommon. I currently feel like I'm in the process of swallowing a lit charcoal briquette. Otherwise fine, actually, little headache.

the wto protests were a turning point for me as a college student, that's when i learned that the news media can lie, and that militarized police are the ones who overwhelmingly initiate fear and perpetrate the violence accredited to protestors on the evening news. i guess a new generation of college students is learning about this now, probably the most important thing they'll learn on their campuses in 4 years tbh
