Brackeys is back, and will now make tutorials on Godot (www.youtube.com)

This is exciting news for every aspiring game developer! Brackeys, a popular YouTuber who used to make in-depth and very user-friendly tutorials about Unity, is returning after a long hiatus, and will now create tutorials on Godot (for those who don’t know, it’s a FOSS game engine, but I’m pretty sure that, if you have an...

If you’re talking about Unity and Godot, the main difference is that one tried to scam their customers by unilaterally changing the terms of contract and requesting an asinine amount of money based on downloads (not purchases) of games made with the engine, without even having a system in place to keep track of them.

The other is Godot.

A warforged that escaped the war, met another defector, and together tried to start a new life. Unfortunately, the kingdom sent assassins after them in order to silence them and make sure that they would not switch sides. The human died, but the warforged lived on, carrying with it the remorse of not being able to save them. To honor its friend, it kept the nickname that the human gave it - Hector, which was a pun based on its model name (Tactical Heavy Operations Robot, model H -> H, T.H.O.R. -> Hector).

Survivor’s guilt was the main idea behind the build: It was a Fighter Rune Knight built to tank damage and protect its allies as better as it could (Heavy armor master, Interception fighting style, Cloud rune).

Tanking damage is not optimal in DnD (killing the damage dealer is always the best choice) but it was meant to be a low-level one shot, so it was fine. Unfortunately work, family and other real life issues got in the way and the party wasn’t able to convene on a date where everyone could gather and play for four hours straight.

Every character I play is secretly asexual, and I don’t think anyone has realized yet.

The closest I came to come out of the closet was when my Undead Warlock married his Unseen Servant. It was his best friend, they looked up to one another, respected each other, and shared an exclusively platonic relationship.

He prepped the entire ceremony in secret as part of multiple sessions:

  • He asked his mentor to put a 6th level Major Image inside his spell storing trinket, which he used to create the perfect setting for the altar.
  • He took a dragon scale from the corpse of a dragon the party had slain, and spent money to have an engagement ring crafted out of it.
  • He had an outfit made out of very expensive material for the Unseen Servant.
  • He put the Unseen Servant spell inside a custom wondrous item that gave him infinite casts of a 1st-level spell.
  • He asked the party’s cleric to cast Ceremony.

He then waited for the final battle, and the night before, he gathered everyone without telling them why, took out the ring, cast Unseen Servant and proposed to it. There were a lot of happy noises that evening, especially from the party’s cleric :)

The character I’m playing now is a lawful good city watch who is “married to his job”, and the Paladin has joked multiple times about taking him to a brothel. Bruh, take the hint.

Hi, I found a small bug. I’ll mention it here since it’s related to the settings page, which you are working on for this update.

If I tap on Settings -> Misc -> Customize post quick actions, all the other options on the same page are deactivated.

I wrote my opinions here:

lemmy.world/comment/4184181

Long story short: i like the idea, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired, and it’s basically unusable at this point. It’s very unbalanced, some buildings are clearly more useful than others, and having one bastion for each player is overkill. It also requires the campaign to stick to a very specific time schedule (a few weeks per level) that I honestly find very difficult to fit in any of the pre-existing modules, and certainly not any of the homebrew campaigns I’ve played with my friends.

First of all, I’m so happy that someone else is posting in this community! Welcome!

Since you asked for help with this class: I’m not convinced about it. It alternates between features that are borderline useless with others that are utterly broken.

Subliminal Affinity gives you proficiency in two of the best skills of the game and a 2nd level spell for free once a day. Despite that, it doesn’t give you any other benefit in battle, so it’s very dependant on the type of game that’s being run - It will find great use in a social campaign, less so in a campaign focused on combat.

Repose and Partial Delve are barely classifiable as ribbon features. Repose allows you and your party to benefit from a worse long rest in 6 hours. I’m not sure which situation would require me to use this feature instead of spending 8 hours and do a long rest, as normal. Partial Delve is very flavourful, but mechanically speaking, it only allows you to gain the benefits of a long rest after 12 hours, which is worse than just doing a long rest, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to achieve here. You could replace the entire shtick with a free cast of Dream, maybe?

Memory Palace is uneventful, but it’s good. Charmed and Frightened are two of the most common status conditions in the game, but they aren’t overly common. When it matters, you’ll be glad to have this feature, but it’s not going to break the game by any means.

Dreamcaster is bonkers. It’s a save-or-suck effect that completely obliterates an encounter if you’re allowed to pull it off. Forcing any number of creatures of your choice to be unconscious for 1 entire minute would allow your party to kill the affected creatures way before they can reroll the saving throw to end it. Sure, most enemies at that level have multiple legendary resistances, but I’m not sure if a feature should be balanced on the fact that it won’t realistically land.
The mechanics are unclear: as written, the dream only ends after 72 hours or if you exit it, which means that taking damage outside of the dream (or, potentially, even dying) won’t end it. As far as I can see it doesn’t even require concentration, nor does it force you unconscious, so you can cast a spell beforehand and the use the feature to put everyone to sleep.
By comparison, Dominate Monster, which is an extremely powerful 8th level spell, requires (alongside an 8th level spell slot, of course) concentration and allows the target to repeat the save every time they take damage.

@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

That’s just going to cause very disgruntled noises among all the party members. I’m playing a martial, I’m already at a natural disadvantage compared to full casters, and I’m forced to fall asleep mid-battle because the cleric wanted to use they new feature? I’m a caster concentrating on something, and I’m forced to lose concentration on my spell?

And what if some party members fall asleep, alongside some enemies, and the party decides that keeping them asleep is a more favourable outcome than waking them all up? Then you have some party members clearing the encounter while the others wait for their chance to wake up, which doesn’t sound very fun. I would accept being put to sleep by an enemy, that’s the nature of the game, but I’m not going to take a free day to join my party, just to have my friend use their feature and force me to doomscroll Instagram while the remaining party members play the game as intended.

Keep also in mind that the unconscious condition is a death sentence, even for just one round. Unconscious being taking all attacks with advantage, and on a hit, it’s an automatic crit. The paladin will just dump their highest smite and call it a day, the fighter, barbarian and warlock will have a field day, and so will the rogue, etc… There’s a reason every effect that forces the unconscious condition is (a) situational, and (b) ends as soon as the target takes damage.

but i could totally see it being used in combat to try (and fail) to shut down the encounter

If you don’t want the feature to be used in battle, you should change it, because as written, it’s clearly a battle-oriented feature. Changing the casting time to 1 minute, for example, would work. Or maybe make it only work on unconscious creatures.

do you think this could be fixed by allowing combat to continue within the dream

That would be very difficult to manage. You would need a second battlemap for the dreamworld, but the cleric can change the environment at any time, with no action required nor limitations on what they can actually do; additionally, the different time flow means that a turn inside the dream equates seven(-ish) turns in the real world, which is a nightmare to keep track of.

I’m not a fan of features that require so much DM-fiat to work. The feature text should have clear rules, boundaries, limitations and set the proper expectations for how it works and what it can actually do. It also helps set the correct expectations from the player that chooses to play your class. As-is, I’d have a hard time picking it over any other cleric class, because I wouldn’t know what half of the class’ features are meant to do.

It’s also difficult to give a proper evaluation or recommend specific fixes because I have no idea of how the Dream World is supposed to work.

The other user, @owenfromcanada, mentioned that the feature is very reminiscent of Tel’alan’rhiod, which I agree. You could take inspiration from that to craft your feature. In case the similarities are coincidental and you don’t know what TAR is, it’s the dream world from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. People frequently come and go into TAR while sleeping, but only skilled or trained individuals can control the flow of the dream and use it to their advantage.

Characters can enter TAR, travel to a different place, and exit TAR from the place they travelled to, which allows them to “fast travel” to different locations; they can teleport, talk to, and spy individuals who also happen to be in TAR; they can examine the environment (which is a distorted mirror of the real world) to try and secure informations about the place from its mirrored copy in TAR; they can also, of course, fight and die in TAR, like you proposed, and skilled dreamwalkers can use their abilities to shape the dreamworld to their advantage, which could translate into codified lair actions that the Cleric player can use (or maybe perform a contested check every round, and the winner is the one who can use the lair action that turn).

These are just random ideas, I honestly don’t know what your plans for the dream world are.

People were bitching and moaning twenty years ago about midichlorians, a one-off throw away line that nobody knows it even exists, outside of huge Star Wars nerds.

As for the racism and sexism, it’s despicable, but nothing new. The “new” thing is the internet giving a place and validation to all those deranged individuals, who share controversial takes and create circlejerks and echo chambers where those controversial opinions are upvoted.

Aielman15,
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

Dude, you literally say at the start of your comment that:

nerds used to be a little more “I know oh-so-much more about this media than you ever will” and a little less “I’m eternally uncomfortable about the changes being made to my media.”

You then proceed to call a movie director “selfish” and “fart-sniffing” for telling the story the way he wanted to tell it. You’ve got to admit the irony in all this.

Also, it’s true that big companies are following trends and fostering memes to drive engagement, but I very much doubt that they are willingly antagonizing their own fan bases to drive negative engagement. That sounds like a nightmare that no social media manager would purposely walk into. Nobody is willingly stirring the pot by making people theorize conspiracy theories about a secret leftist agenda. That’s just humanity for you. Some are good people, a lot suck.

The entities that are willfully stirring the pot are social media platforms, who have a lot more to gain by having those people scream at one another in their feeds, because controversial takes can populate comment sections more and faster than mild takes, which drive engagement on those social platforms even further.

Thank you so much for another great release

Unfortunately I don’t think that the edited time works as intended. To me, it seems it just repeats the publish time.

And extra thanks because this was a request I made some time ago. I really appreciate you going back to add it.

There hasn’t been much activity here. I suppose Lemmy userbase is too low for niche communities such as this one to stay active.

That being said, I’m happy it’s here regardless, just in case someone ends up needing it, even if it’s a year from now.

The new outfit’s cute, though.

I’m a very early Gen Z and I feel like a boomer lol

I do nerd things alone at home or maybe with a friend or two. DnD live shows, people traveling to play/watch e-sports… It’s all so foreign to me. I don’t feel resentment, but shock and disconnection are always present when I read headlines such as these. Like, I wouldn’t dream in a million years to pay money to watch someone else play DnD, but then again, video game streamers exist. I can’t wrap my head around this!

And just to be clear, I’m not bashing the people enjoying this form of content. I’m just expressing my disbelief at the fact that it exists at all. If I didn’t know better, and saw something like this in a movie, I would call it fake and detached from reality. When in fact, I’m the one detached from my generation. Then again, I don’t have any social media and I’m writing my thoughts on Lemmy, so I’m clearly not an example of what my generation looks like.

“Guys, homebrews are allowed, but please, choose something that’s viable and not too abstruse.”

“No worries! By the way, I found this homebrew class in DanDWiki and it seems really cool, can I use it?”

DM screams and cries

Aielman15,
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, sorry, I thought I was replying to the other person, I didn’t realize it was you! Anyway, I also noticed the same thing, so I have a few suggestions:

  • My old Reddit app (Relay for Reddit) had the Subscribed page as the home page, which is what people want usually.
  • I suppose you could add the option to choose the homepage when you boot the app for the first time (and maybe also mention how to change it).
  • Adding the option to change it from the options menu.

Okay, so, I went back to make sure that I was remembering things clearly - At this point Mark’s canon is all over the place, and finding old comics is pretty difficult…

Anyway, the order should be:

We also still don’t know what happens to the collector after being captured. Old King is shown having Francois still in Francois (21 december 2021), although that one may not be canon anymore considering it was drawn before the finale.

EDIT: Maybe swapping this one and Ready for battle still makes sense. If you choose to interpret Amity wanting to see Luz’s titan form as “I wanted to see it again” and not “I’ve never seen it and I wanted to see it”.

@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

I was thinking the same thing when looking for those pages yesterday. Even the main sagas are very difficult to follow at this point, if you didn’t read them as they released.

LHoB is somewhat consistent with naming but still has a few annoying outliers, such as Fear, Cliche or the One-shot.

But the Ayzee saga is all over the place and at this point I’m thinking that Mark’s doing it on purpose, with the naming changing constantly (from Grom Factor to Enna to Mama Eda to Fight Coven, and I’m forgetting more) and even super duper important pages such as Having her work cut out for her and A change of pace having their own name, separate from all the others! And that’s not even accounting for all other pages that enrich the lore or explain some things that happen in that story, such as Ori, Cool uncle Gus (+ Insert battle music), So, yeah. And again, these are the names that I remember. I wasn’t able to find the page where it’s revealed that Jay is a Grimwalker, for example, and I’m sure I’m forgetting more.

Oh, and by the way, while I was grabbing those links, I remembered that Ayzee has met the Collector, so here it is. Apparently the Hexsquad has somehow managed to rescue him from the evil!collectors, and he still has François with him.

All this to say: yeah, at this point a spreadsheet with a tag system is mandatory to keep track of everything and look back at specific pages in a reasonable time. Think it would be possible to set one up online as a community effort? I’m busy these days but I’d be more than willing to dedicate some time every day to add a few pages and tag the characters in each. I’m not well versed in this specific topic though, so I don’t know what would be the best option to have a document online easily modifiable by all contributors (and ideally closed to anyone else to avoid trolling).

Aielman15,
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

This is great, thank you so much! I’ve spent the last hour fleshing out the characters, dividing them into subsections that hopefully make sense. There are a few currently underutilized (mostly the Empire/Coven Heads), but I included them just in case some of them make an appearance in the ongoing Hexsquad series alongside Adrian. If they don’t, they’ll probably be folded in the Misc category. Apart from that, the list should now include (most of) the characters appearing in the comics.

We should have this posted and stickied at the top of the community!

Aielman15, (edited )
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve filled the form with two months-worth of Mark’s comics. Question: Is the “storyline” tab meant for the general theme like on r/TOH wiki (Angsty, “Cool”, Funny, Heartwarming), or to tie together comics that share a common story/characters but different names (such as Fight Coven and Grom Factor, for example)? I wouldn’t mind the latter, it seems more useful.

Also, I’ve decided to tag characters based on a “tag everything that appears on the image” policy, so even characters that are shown only in the background of one frame are tagged. Drawing a line between what should be tagged and what not would get difficult otherwise. If you have a different opinion, please let me know so that I will tag them correctly in the future! :)
