If by AI he means LLM or generative AI then sure. But LLM and GenAI are not truly AI in the full sense of the meaning. They’re building blocks to it. A mind is more complex. The singularity still approaches at blistering speed.

Edit: downvotes don’t change the fact that these "AI"s are not intelligent. It’s a misnomer by ppl who want to sell you shit. bigthink.com/…/artificial-general-intelligence-tr…

Ah yeah I see your point I suppose - i didn’t think that’s the line that would hang people up though. By definition of the theory of the singularity is that it will be blisteringly quick - though that’s my word for how quick it will be. The whole concept that the last 50 years equivalent of tech advance will be achieved in the next 25, and so on … to the point that it creates the singularity. I think we will see it in our lifetimes and it’s going to be much closer than people are comfortable with.

Love it when ppl add “simply” to things as though it just hand waves it into success

That’s basically what therapy is. The lack of vitamin is the damage you received in your childhood that you just thought was normal.

Then you actually recount the experience to a therapist and they tell you how not normal that is and help you to recognize the fact that you had to go through that without support and that the way you are is because you had to cope to support yourself to survive when no one else was there for you.

Once you know it then you can tell all your friends and get them to awe at your seemingly inhuman perseverance.

Not a superpower, agreed.

I’ve found many shared experiences when I thought my experience was unique. Sharing my personal traumas with people in my life has both helped them to understand me as well as sometimes help them also. In the same ways I have felt alone I have helped other to realize they are not alone and often that can be the first step to them getting real help.

Unfortunately this is the case in America but not everywhere. Seems like a trauma on it’s own.

That said, there are resources and many therapists in the US who will work for free or at reduced rates on a case by case basis.

I never had any trauma

It’s hard to know this by yourself. I’m assuming you’ve been through the process but I wouldn’t want others to assume they could self-assess this at all - it’s not possible.

and I feel like it’s too over-prescribed instead of drugs that fix the issue.

I think generally the sentiment is that america over-relies on drugs to fix mental health problems. But I can understand that if you have a chemical imbalance or need drugs that it would seem like there are a lot of hoops to jump through before you get there.

I am not.

The last sentence was facetious/tongue in cheek because the op is a meme.

I do advocate for therapy to others.

Really wanted to read this but the writing is so obnoxious I’m half convinced it was written by AI. The picture that goes with it was. I got halfway though before closing it.

Web Location tracking has not been fully based on IP registration data for quite some time.

It’s all dependent on what you’re doing and how. Like if you use Facebook you’re fingerprinted to the tits.

The granularity depends on examples like that.

But something a bit more benign and not as granular would be finger printing you based on the timezone your browser offers up. It’s not as basic as like “-7 GMT” since the iso list can go down to the state and or country. So if in your OS you picked “America/Houston” a lot of browsers will pony that up without hesitation.

How many more bits of data until you know what city I’m in, Street I’m on. Etc. And there’s tons of ways to derive that data over time.

browserleaks.com is an interesting example that can show all the bits of data your browser can give up.

And of course you can lock lots down given the right tools.

Haha did you mean to say root kit cuz pretty sure no one wants that 😂

I assume you want Spotify to let users root the devices.

I don’t use linux on desktop anymore but that seems like a major step backwards from 10 years ago where your worst worry for running multiple DEs was the bloat from having to run GTK and QT in a mixed environment.

Server as heating device - how do I do this?

So I have this silly idea/longterm project of wanting to run a server on renewables on my farm. And I would like to reuse the heat generated by the server, for example to heat a grow room, or simply my house. How much heat does a server produce, and where would you consider it best applied? Has anyone built such a thing?

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

Unless you can physically separate the heat from the server… This is a bad idea. There’s a reason servers don’t sit in hot humid areas.

We live in a society that teaches us to value others based on their ability to work. So naturally people think homeless are humans with less value then themselves.

Once you’ve been taught you’re better then others really it’s really all downhill from there.

It doesn’t really surprise me that a self hosted project cant afford to self host it’s own self or be able to find a neutral hosting location.

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

The irony isn’t lost on me but the comments show it wasn’t that simple. If it was they surely would have done it.

No it’s not worth cuz you can only mine so deep in the swamp until it fills with water
