I don’t use linux on desktop anymore but that seems like a major step backwards from 10 years ago where your worst worry for running multiple DEs was the bloat from having to run GTK and QT in a mixed environment.

Server as heating device - how do I do this?

So I have this silly idea/longterm project of wanting to run a server on renewables on my farm. And I would like to reuse the heat generated by the server, for example to heat a grow room, or simply my house. How much heat does a server produce, and where would you consider it best applied? Has anyone built such a thing?

Unless you can physically separate the heat from the server… This is a bad idea. There’s a reason servers don’t sit in hot humid areas.

We live in a society that teaches us to value others based on their ability to work. So naturally people think homeless are humans with less value then themselves.

Once you’ve been taught you’re better then others really it’s really all downhill from there.

It doesn’t really surprise me that a self hosted project cant afford to self host it’s own self or be able to find a neutral hosting location.

The irony isn’t lost on me but the comments show it wasn’t that simple. If it was they surely would have done it.

Lol company taking advantage of customers in a monopoly outraged that another company was able to take advantage of them better and now it’s not a monopoly. Not rushing to defend anyone here.

Real film grain gives a pre-process dithered softness to detail that I personally think isn’t really reproduced in digital post processing.

Everyone knows where Drake lives in Toronto it’s no secret. He raps about it and named songs after the street so at worst he doxxed himself. He posts videos of his property from time to time. Etc

It’s not oil per say but you will get glycerin fogging up your windows over the course of many months.

Propylene glycol (PG) is completely miscible with water, meaning it can dissolve in water.

I did. I don’t believe it has any real lasting effect. You’d never know I vaped in any of my cars.

One of the best parts of ds9 and many other episodes. It’s no wonder they kept bringing him back.

The console ran at 60 on NTSC, and 50 for PAL. Divide by two to get the standard.

Has ethernet become illegitimate? A librarian flipped out after spotting me using ethernet

I plugged into ethernet (as wifi w/captive portal does not work for me). I think clearnet worked but I have no interest in that. Egress Tor traffic was blocked and so was VPN. I’m not interested in editing all my scripts and configs to use clearnet, so the library’s internet is useless to me (unless I bother to try a tor...

The reality despite what you or i might do, is that 99% of people don’t carry around an ethernet or hardwire in when there is available wifi.

The library might be public, but it’s still a good idea to communicate your intent or obtain permission prior to using someone else’s network in away they might deem to be unexpected.

“Do you have ethernet or wired internet?” is actually a common library question and the response from whoever works the front desk will likely tell you everything you need to know.

It’s kind of all that matters though. We don’t need to trust her - we need her acceptance of the act for which she is the gatekeeper of. If we don’t have it - trust over what she said is irrelevant since we don’t even have the basic trust over the act.

If the LIBRARIAN doesn’t understand this as a service the library offers - then they don’t offer it - or if you think they’re wrong you need to have an adult conversation that they do and that it should be ok. It’s weird to just assume you can go around sticking your cat5e into other peoples ethernet ports like that.

At the ever increasing cost of the pi and how limiting it is, the n100 is a no brainer.

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

There’s gotta be a bunch of niche cases why a pi is better - but generally…not.

What usecase is arm based linux and bsd all that important? Outside of arm dev - probably not much else.

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

Yep, that’s what ‘generally’ and ‘niche’ means. The n100 doesnt have hyper threading so isnt subject to that kind of attack - btw the same attack that AMD has been subject to to many times over and over. Not sure what’s good on ARM curiosity - still interested to know.

Pi power consumption is going up too. And x86 keeps coming down. Idle power draw the pi wins you’d get 2x longer idle. But under load if you compared the workoutput to wattage I bet it’s pretty close.

No it’s not worth cuz you can only mine so deep in the swamp until it fills with water
