The Alba Y823-5000 is a neat little digital watch I picked up at a flea market in Osaka Japan for about $10. Beside the usually quartz watch offerings, this one had a button that will read the current time to you in Japanese with a button push.
I didn’t know about Alba before but after doing some reading I’m really liking their vintage watch lines. I wish I had paid more attention to the buckets of “as-is” watches in the markets.
Today I found out I have a rating on FREE NOW as a passenger (I’m not a driver at all, I use it on the rare occassions I need to move something or I’m too sick to make it via public transport, i.e. after a surgery - I have an upcoming one so I redownloaded it). Checking my settings to make sure I had payment in, I saw I had...
It’s pretty interesting to see how people give and interpret ratings in the US vs. Asia for example. In the US it seems like less than a mid-four is a gamble, in Japan you get some great restaurants hanging around at 3.0+. The reviews will say like “Everything was perfect great food, 3 stars”.
Iceland is quite beautiful, I didn’t camp but I recall the park areas being quite fierce about not venturing off of walking paths to protect sensitive things like moss that take forever to grow. That may be a reason why they don’t allow dispersed camping. I’d say still go, it was beautiful in the winter and I didn’t find it too crowded or unbearably cold.
Bystanders are less likely to give cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to women than men, particularly if the emergency takes place in a public area, according to research presented at the European Emergency Medicine Congress. The study also shows that in private locations older people, especially older men, are less likely to...
From the original article: "I could have died peacefully, but now I am living a nightmare; I was sexually assaulted in broad daylight by the only person who was sober at the party; what are the chances?.”
I am Ganesh, an Indian atheist and I don’t eat beef. It’s not like that I have a religious reason to do that, but after all those years seeing cows as peaceful animals and playing and growing up with them in a village, I doubt if I ever will be able to eat beef. I wasn’t raised very religious, I didn’t go to temple...
Not too quirky or obscure but I really just like to fix shit. Clocks, washing machines, cars, crooked door, hole in a sweater, electronics… Nothing is outside of my interest.
On the more obscure side I like to fiddle with wrist watches by adding aftermarket parts and modifying their overall look.
Thanks for the tips! Is it pretty easy to find movement specific service instructions or do you just learn to recognize parts and common build methods?
I saw this while in Mexico and really liked the idea. I was then immediately bummed out when realizing almost everything had that label on it and buying food without excess sugar and salt was a lot trickier.
I’m a Male who doesn’t have a thick beard or much facial hair. At best, I get a small stubble on my cheeks, where my moustache can grow a bit more. I can easily shave my cheeks without any cream or prep, moustache I’d generally have to soften up the hairs for a good shave....

Atheists, is there anything religious that sticks with you to this day?
