I voted (and I hope everyone else commenting here did as well, I guess comments alone won’t be aggregated into the results)

Is it me or does reddit feel, weird?

So I checked out reddit after a long time and was going through the top of r/videogames subreddit and I could clearly see a pattern in most of the posts there. Posts were mostly like “what game ______ for you?” or “what game _____ like this?” Now I could be wrong but it doesn’t feel ‘organic’ (if that’s correct...

You are not the only one noticing it. Probably trying to maximize the user provided content they can sell to language model creators

Indeed, thanks for the link!

The subscriber count is still way up, but I’d you look at the online/active user count, it feels like its around 10% it was off recent highs.

Same here. Subs with hundred of thousands of subscribers, but barely any activity.

I guess the OP didn’t add the link, the Lemmy interface can be a bit confusing sometimes

Blaze,
@Blaze@dormi.zone avatar

Additionally I think that having a single huge lemmy instance is not great for the architecture of the fediverse as a whole and even if there were no changes planned or being considered. I think that many instances hosting communities is preferable to having large ones like lemmy.ml and lemmy.world.

May I ask why you didn’t move to another generalist instance? It’s a two clicks operation now to export and import settings from the settings menu

Blaze,
@Blaze@dormi.zone avatar

I see. Well, good luck with this. If that helps, I noticed that if you communicate openly with your community, explain a progressive plan, the transition can go quite smoothly (I moved communities from LW in the past).

Losing the posts sucks indeed, maybe we should bring this topic as its own thread to see if someone wants to work on a tool to allow export and import of posts.

LW is unique in the way that it is by far the largest instance, it makes sense that they want to take their time to update, they usually come up with unique issues.

If people could move away from it to other generalist instances, that would help with the issues. My former main instance, Reddthat, is now unable to fetch votes in a quick way because LW centralizes so much of the users and communities. More details can be be found here: reddthat.com/post/16122033

Now that LW is on 0.19.X, users can move to another instance in two clicks from the settings.

Why would you need to?

Blaze,

Feel free to start your own, to be honest I feel it’s like the only major language missing now, as we have PHP with Mbin, Rust with Lemmy, Python with Piefed and Java with Sublinks

Looks great, thank you for this!

First Image of Christian Bale as Frankenstein in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘THE BRIDE’ - October 2025 (dormi.zone)

A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social...

You know what, they just seem so pushy lately about Nitro and stuff that I didn’t even get the joke

When you see unique content on Lemmy, please screenshot and post on Reddit if you are active on both.

It is a subconscious level ad for the utility/value of the platform. You don’t need to be overt about the screenshot containing Lemmy by name. Any subtle details are all that is needed. This is all it takes to attract the most valuable people; simply show them that they are missing out on something useful. It is effective psy...

Seems like the average Reddit experience ha ha

Blaze,
@Blaze@dormi.zone avatar

There are less than a couple dozen posts an hour in the all feed for several hours a day now.

Also, note that last weekend was a long weekend off in Europe, maybe that influenced it

(WEEKLY / CMV) I should close this community (lemmy.ca)

It’d help us out a lot if we could disable downvotes, for instance.

Did you consider moving to an instance with downvotes disabled? reddthat.com is a great instance without downvotes, it might suit well for your community.

Blaze,
@Blaze@dormi.zone avatar

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are closing this community. I didn’t contribute as much as I would like to (busy myself animating other communities, and real life stuff too). Do you want to try advertising this community once more to larger communities like !casualconversation ? Maybe that could help getting better people on board.

Also, you might want to have a look at tildes.net . This website is heavily focused on discussion, so maybe the issue you have is that people that could be interested in your community are already there

Blaze,
@Blaze@dormi.zone avatar

You can just open another one there, and then when everything is ready, you open a post here to redirect people there, and you lock the community to make sure that people use the new one.

One caveat with Reddthat: the comments and posts and synchronized correctly, but votes from LW can take some time to synchronize (this is mostly due to the over centralization of people on LW, and the way Lemmy manages queue).

That might not be an issue if you don’t worry too much about votes, but that’s for you to decide.

Of each of the bands.

Blaze,
@Blaze@dormi.zone avatar

It’s the number of views for each bands (as it is one band per country). It’s not a map population of Spotify accounts, otherwise you would see Mexico in much darker green for instance (and Australia less dark)
