BoxOfFeet,

Wow, I swear I searched for fountain pen communities when I got on Lemmy but I must have only been searching locally. Thank you! I will certainly post it when it’s done.

I’ll give you a sneak peek at what I think the filling system will be. I thought I was going to make it a lever filler, but this is even easier.

This is a Jaxon Self-Filling #4, very similar to a Conklin Crescent Filler. Actually, I believe Jaxon was a Conklin subsidiary. It’s just a button connected to a big bar that squishes the sac, and a rotating slotted ring keeps you from accidentally pushing the button. https://i.imgur.com/KS5ldLl.jpeg

BoxOfFeet,

I’m going to try the PLA a bit more, before I go ordering any more clear filament I think. Thanks for the suggestion though! If you end up getting some and it turns out well, maybe you’ll persuade me. What kind of fountain pen things are you trying to print?

BoxOfFeet,

This place is awesome. I like that I can recognize usernames in replies. It definitely feels closer than reddit.

BoxOfFeet,

Looking at Maps, it’s a 7 hour walk to my office. Or, two hour bike ride. Or, take 3 busses and a ride share in 2 hours. Or, a 30 minute drive in a car.

BoxOfFeet,

Somewhat similar to your example of designing for analog TVs, certain games for the original Gameboy took advantage of the terrible ghosting for transparency effects. Like ZAS. On an IPS screen mod or an emulator, these just look flickery. But they make a neat effect on an original screen. Haven’t seen any filters fix that yet.

BoxOfFeet,

My new COO invited a few of us out individually to get a grasp on why people are leaving and how we can retain people. He really did suggest a ping-pong table. I think all of us set him straight that we couldn’t care less about that. I broke my personal record last month for hours worked in a week. It was over 75. If I leave, it will be because of that. Not because we don’t go to baseball games as a team, or don’t have a Foosball table.

BoxOfFeet,

I work in automotive interiors tooling. We had a customer bring by a sample of this headliner material. But they brought an entire roll of it, four feet wide, no idea how long. Probably 75 feet. I cut a couple feet off of it, now my whole desk is a mousepad.

BoxOfFeet,

Yes, we also have inflatable kayaks. Two one-seaters, though. Sevylor Quickpak K1. We got them when we lived in our apartment, but we still use them now that we have a house. Our paddles also sucked, but real ones still fit in the “backpack.” The whole freakin’ thing folds up and the seat becomes the pack! Take it with you, air pump and all.

BoxOfFeet,

How on earth do I keep my photos from rotating in all of these?

I take a picture on my phone in portrait. I upload it, it’s rotated to landscape. I look at the EXIF, pic on my phone says it’s rotated 90. If I delete that, it rotates to landscape. What do I need to do to keep it vertical?

BoxOfFeet,

I love Rhodia. Nice and dense, they come in 80 and 90 gram. There are dot pads, graph pads, meeting notebooks, large square pads. I use them all the time for work. And, they are pretty inexpensive.

GBA I modded to match a watch I modded. (lemmy.world)

I had a really hard time capturing the colors right here for the buttons and the minute hand. In real life, they’re much closer than they look here. The GBA has a Funnyplaying IPS, and the watch is a HEAVILY modded Seiko SKX. Honestly, the only things original are the case, crown tube, and bezel at this point.

[Seiko] Build I did for my brother last year. (lemmy.world)

It started as a eBay Frankenwatch. Unfortunately, and obviously, the 6309 in it was useless. Also, it was completely the wrong type of crystal, just ground to fit. So, it got one of my spare 7S26’s. It took a custom spacer to fit, and I had to grind a larger bevel on the rotor to fit it in the caseback. Hands and dial are...

Mystery brand bulb filler (lemmy.world)

I found this, of course, at an antique store. The celluloid of the cap and blind cap are gray/silver and black, and the barrel is gray/silver and clear. The nib is terrible, and after this pic I swapped it for a FPR flex. There is no branding anywhere, and I’d really love to know who made it so I could find some of their other...

BoxOfFeet,

I have some clear rustoleum lacquer in my garage, I’ll have to give that a try in addition to some of these other tips

BoxOfFeet,

I’m not sure what my optimal temp is yet, I’ve been using 245 because it was the middle of the range recommended by my filament. I will definitely try slower, I had already slowed to 50% my PLA speed. I’ll try like 30% though!

BoxOfFeet,

My issues are definitely around the seams. I thought randomize go the starting points on my layers would help, but it just made the whole part leaky instead of having it localized. I’ll definitely check out that video, thank you!

BoxOfFeet,

Yeah, it is not a super friendly material. I really wanted this piece to be at least translucent, as it would save having a separate piece for an ink window, and it is just cool to see the ink in the feed. Looks like there is a clear PLA on sale on Monoprice right now, I just went ahead and ordered some. I have my PLA settings dialed in pretty well, I can probably get it down with that. I’m still going to keep trying with the PETG, though.

BoxOfFeet,

Wait… the Lemmy logo is a Lemming?? I’ve spent the last 6 days thinking it was a gerbil. And this whole thing was referencing the Lemmiwinks episode of South Park.

BoxOfFeet,

Wow, I’m not going to edit it because it’s a little funny, but I meant to say biverted backlight.
