    Tired of hearing "It's okay to not be okay." By definition "not okay" is NOT okay.

    If you are not okay, please do whatever you need to do to be okay. Don't sit there marinating forever in not-okayness because the internet has taught you that everyone else is just taking off their Okay Boots and settling in and picking out curtains for their House of Not Okay.

    You deserve to be okay. Do something. Please.

    @mishellbaker i think it's one that gets repeated enough to have lost its meaning. Ideally, people would use/understand it as "no, you aren't crazy to be upset at the state of the world, you aren't letting people down if you need a mental health day, it is allowable and within normal human experience if you need some time to yourself, so take that break you need".

    @valkyrie I don't know why state nature departments don't highlight things that are edible when they share information about invasive species. You want less of this plant? encourage people to go eat it.

    @HistoPol He likes to chill out under there, and digs sometimes. Mostly just unusual in volume and in passing up the invitation to come back to bed and snuggle. :)

    I looked up something horrifying before bed (i did not expect pictures), and then my brain pivoted to being annoyed about dog meds (pondering asking on fb if anyone has a few extra i could buy or borrow, otherwise i gotta buy name-brand because generics probably won't arrive in time, and name brand ONLY sells in bottles of 50 for ~$100).

    The point is I cannot sleep.

    so i kind of just realized hotel prices are a scam

    i've been frustrated a lot with how being financial stable and credit-worthy has made everything cheaper (no over-draft fees, cash back rewards, pay off your balance every month, but put everything on the card) but the deeper I get into this rabbit hole the more i learn

    like i'm constantly now getting offers to get serious rewards on hotel stays - sometimes 25% in total. so someone who isn't "credit worthy" is paying way, way more than someone who isn't

    this isn't just "i can afford to buy in bulk" or "2-5% cash back" or "i can buy clothes that don't fall apart"

    because like

    with these discounts, i could hotel hop in a way that wasn't significantly more than rent

    but i'm not at risk of needing to do that

    @deilann 2 things:
    First, i am reminded of a story about an old couple who decided to just be on cruises forever because they'd cruised enough to get deep enough in loyalty programs that it was cheaper than assisted living.
    Second, i feel like the hotel loyalty plan thing is everywhere now. If something offers an app/membership, you are getting fucked on prices if you don't have it. Hotels, dining, even groceries.

    @deilann legit reason for sleep glasses. Feels like a failure to be useful on the part of the dogs. Why are they not laying on you to keep you in, or accompanying you on nighttime walkies so they can lead you back to bed? Smh.

    Any idea what these are? Trowel for scale. I was reading something recently that talked about best mushrooms for beginning foragers, ones that don't have poisonous look alikes -- so I have a guess, but I don't have my source with me to look.

    Same mushrooms, but the wider shot shows more growing on the left and right of same tree. Also, green foresty background, and a vine going up the center of the tree.

    New garden area is now framed with bricks, lined with brown paper bags, and covered in wet mud. Next step is more paper bags (in lieu of digging out the grass before i started) and then some compost dirt.
    Decided against using Sparkplug's dirt as, oh right, it's full of seed caches. Instead went to a neighbor who has been digging up his yard and asked if he had plans for his buckets of dirt.
    Now, big breakfast/brunch, to be followed by job-work until I'm caught up.
