I know it's weird, but I would rather be liked than loved.

Love is a gift from the one who loves. Charity, in some cases.

Like is that thing we just can't help, when we see something amazing, find ourselves smiling. Like is, "you bring me joy."

I've never been short on love, because I know a lot of loving people. Being liked is what I have chased my whole life.

A lot of times when I talk about happiness to others it's as though we're speaking different languages, because so many people think of happiness as a mood, a transient reaction to a certain stimulus, instead of a default state.

Of course bad stuff makes us react badly, and good stuff makes us react with cheer. But when that passes, what's underneath it? What do you default to? And why?

Here's a thing to try:

Every time you find yourself saying out loud or thinking to yourself, "I hate X," instead figure out its opposite, Y, and say "I love Y" instead.

In the traffic jam, say, "I love driving freely." When you're buried under busywork, say, "I love meaningful tasks." When your boss is a jerk to you, say, "I love compassionate people."

Sometimes it's easier to find your way out of a pit if you focus less on the pit and more on where the ladder is.

This is St. Teresa's, where Alfred Hitchcock shot The Birds. The fog was thick that night...and it was very, very dark. It took three and a half minutes to collect enough photons to see what I was looking at. A short time later, the fog became too thick to shoot long: the lens kept fogging up.

Every time someone uses the word "grinding" to refer to something they willingly do in a game I wanna ask, do you have any idea how tedious that sounds? You could use literally any other word and what you're doing would not sound quite so excruciatingly dull and pointless.

The minute a game feels like a "grind" I am out of there so fast.

I am DEEPLY opposed to the addiction-based models that some games use to keep you spending endless hours having zero fun. Life's short.
