I may write a client library to automate/replace clicking around the web UI of the router my ISP provided (Nokia HA-140W-B). I'll check for existing implementations first, or frameworks I can adapt

CenturyAvocado,
@CenturyAvocado@fosstodon.org avatar

@alex you could replace their router with your own more feature rich router :) the Nokia seems reliable and ok but nowhere near as nice as something competent running #OpenWRT

CenturyAvocado,
@CenturyAvocado@fosstodon.org avatar

@alex I think the Nokia is one you can usurp the TR-069 for too and point it at your own server, make changes via API style communication. Though that sounds more work than your plan of faking UI presses!

Dear Hive Mind..
UK: I have a standard ancient light switch in the wall. I would like to be able to switch it manually but also via IoT of some sort (zigbee?). What sensible options exist?

@revk may have the answer to this I guess too ?

The out of spec mains utility voltage for several villages around this area last week is really visible on the 7 day graph.

I really just want to go back to bed but Tom won’t let me. He wants me to put on some more summery clothes, apply sunscreen, and pot up some plants in the sunshine. My body and brain are not keen

@That_One_Guy @purplepadma it's grim here too.

Where precisely does Israel expect the innocent people to keep evacuating to??

And why the hell are we still giving Israel weapons and ammunition?

Has anyone any idea what the actual point is anymore?

Meanwhile… Russia keeps on killing the Ukrainians.

Great world we are in.

@VModifiedMind it's such a strange juxtaposition.

Upgrading the UEFI on that server might have been an expensive mistake :-/

Will have to wait until someone can hard power cycle it and stuff a KVM on it

It’s either outputting video on the wrong GPU (there’s an arc a310 in it) and sitting at a prompt or it’s failed to POST.

Either way it responds to power control in the IPMI but it’s stuck at post code 25 (according to post code snooping) and I get no video on remote console.

CenturyAvocado,
@CenturyAvocado@fosstodon.org avatar

@Dragon Was it worth the upgrade :D ?

CenturyAvocado,

@Dragon What I mean is.. what did the upgraded UEFI bring you which was important to apply?

I have been getting up around 10.30am. This morning I had been for a run and had breakfast by 7.30. The consequence of this is that by 11am I am hungry again. What should I eat? Another breakfast?

Today most of the local networks I monitor spent the day in "Smart Trim" mode as the grid voltage hit 262volts in one location! (257.59volts in another, 255.97volts another and 257.94volts in the final location)
Should I be worried. (These are all several miles apart).

CenturyAvocado,
@CenturyAvocado@fosstodon.org avatar

@interpipes it would be nice if all the smart meters could be some sort of quality reporting network for them !

CenturyAvocado,
@CenturyAvocado@fosstodon.org avatar

@interpipes the other curiosity I have is.. how to they adjust voltage at a local level? I feel it would need taps changing manually on a transformer?

CenturyAvocado,

@srtcd424 I know of one ISP who used an Ionq EV to power their street cabinet for months while the DNO dragged their heels installing the permanent power feed! When they went away to recharge the car the UPS in the cabinet provided continuity.

I'm in a pub. The staff all look so weird and like robots, all have large black earpieces in.

It gives the impression they are only half listening to you or you are their secondary concern. For such a large company with (I presume) focus groups and lots of "make the customer feel welcome" research I'm astonished someone didn't veto the setup.

I had thought for decades that it was just not going to be worth switching from Windows to Linux for daily use.

Windows was just too ingrained in my habits and too easy for me to stick with.

This year, I've been introduced to a new product that's completely changed my mind about that:

Microsoft Windows 11

Microsoft, you've disregarded 10,000 rules of user interface design, and broken every trained movement of my fingers on keyboard or mouse. Windows is easy no more. Fuck you.

CenturyAvocado,
@CenturyAvocado@fosstodon.org avatar

@royal @CliftonR as a Linux noob moving from Windows 11 I find Pop!_OS to be really easy.

A small independent shop that sells niche products in town has posted that they've only had one customer all day and that it can't go on like that.

I'm quite amused by the comments this time, most of which are along the lines of "every time we go there during your opening hours you're shut".

CenturyAvocado,

@mw1cgg I have this problem with a local cafe. It's only open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Seems really weird to me and they definitely miss out on impulse visits when I drive past and they are closed.
