Cinner,

Linka? Long shot, but message me if it’s you.

Cinner,

To OP: it does add significant block to spammers so they may only create 5,000 accounts slowly instead of millions of accounts quickly.

Most email services require a phone number or other email service to sign up if there is anything fishy about your connection/browser, and there can be hundreds of things, even just some specific browser extension installed, or you using the same mobile network IP as a spammer.

And there are services where you can buy a real temporary 4G/5G number (non-VoIP) for a service for less than a dollar per use. Once a number has been used for that service it still has every other X number (thousands) of services it can be used for before it’s retired from the pool. But that does add up after a while if you’re making tens or hundreds of thousands of accounts.

Cinner,

DnD issue: memory sync.

You’re just yourself playing yourself, and all copies know what all copies are thinking.

Cinner,

Then you’re still one of the copies and now all copies have post traumatic stress disorder and clone suisyndrome, including you.

Cinner,

Hard but not impossible. I’ve read reddit posts in my dreams back when I used to doomscroll. I remember the text being hard to read but readable sometimes, especially headlines.

Cinner,

Adding to this

Citing unnamed sources, Reuters on Thursday reported that Iran had withdrawn senior officials from Syria following a series of Israeli airstrikes in a bid to avoid being directly drawn into a wider conflict in the region.

US officials told CNN this week that there were signs that the Iranian government was becoming increasingly concerned about the actions of its proxy groups in the region, who have launched over 160 attacks on US forces since October.

Cinner,

It’s insane how infested Lemmy is with anti-Western shills stirring the pot against the West in any way they can. My fiancee is Jewish but I’m not religious so we have debates/arguments about the war, but it’s clear here that any comment not “Israel is literally Satan” is downvoted to hell.

Don’t get me wrong it was bad on Reddit but Lemmy is on another level.

That’s a problem with decentralization that needs to be solved because at the moment the only tools to deal with any of the tens or hundreds of Lemmy instances plagued by propaganda is to defederate them (on the Admin side) or block each individual user/server/sub (on the User side).

At least with centralized services you can detect and (shadow)ban obvious bot activity quite easily. As far as I know of Lemmy infrastructure, your IP/User-Agent/other identifying metadata only goes as far as the server you’re registered to.

Running a popular Lemmy server is probably a nice way to collect some juicy 0days from governments though, if you have the skillset.

How is it possible for this track to have so few plays on Spotify? (lemmy.one)

I noticed that the track “Canon (Primo)” by Justice only has 5,815 plays on Spotify, even though every other track on the album has millions of plays. How is this possible? I know it’s just an interlude track that you wouldn’t listen to unless you’re listening to the full album, but still, this play count seems...

Cinner,

Or # of people that listened to it/entire album twice (27x2 > 30) which given the listener counts of the other songs seems likely.

Maybe it counts if someone downloads it?

It would be interesting to hear from an actual Spotify dev.

How does ransomware get into major networks, such as schools or other large public agencies?

I read an article about ransomware affecting the public transportation service in Kansas, and I wanted to ask how this can happen. Wikipedia says these are “are typically carried out using a Trojan, entering a system through, for example, a malicious attachment, embedded link in a phishing email, or a vulnerability in a...

Cinner,

All it takes is one email account to be compromised via spearphishing, and the attacker can send domain wide emails to everyone, with proper DKIM, SPF and all.

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? (lemmy.world)

Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...

Cinner,

The Steven Fry narration really drew me in. He’s fantastic. I was bummed when I started listening to the others but quickly got used to it. Martin Freeman is a good narrator, if not as animated and loud as Fry.

Cinner,

We’ve been divorced for 5 years!

What’s it like living with your ex-wife for 5 years?

Cinner,

It’s a well known phenomena that some people just don’t get high their first time(s). I knew a guy since high school and years after that was basically immune to it. People gave him huge vape bags and massive doses of edibles and it never had an effect. Never saw the guy forget a single word. Then apparently at some point it did, because he smokes now.

There are also people who are terrible at metabolizing gummies. I’m not one of them. Give me 2mg and I’m good. Give me 20mg and I’m curled up in the fetal position in bed waiting for the visions and monsters in my head to go away.

Cinner,

And at this point it’s not a scam it’s a virus that they’ve already opened hence the fake error message.

Cinner,

You can get assault and battery charges on a corpse? Why wouldn’t they just go after murder 1 in that case?

I’d call it a property crime, but my brain hasn’t been fully cooked quite yet.

Cinner,

The backdoors the NSA uses are known vulnerabilities, 0days, USB drops, all the normal hacker tools… and if it’s a target of sensitive enough in nature, maybe a warrant requiring Apple Update/Windows Update/whoever or whatever device needs spied on, to deliver a payload to that specific machine.

Cinner,

you know that’s a really great point. I had assumed they would make sure he didn’t have a credit card or monitor it etc but you can buy whatever amount of VPS or dedi storage you want with crypto. I’m sure he had knowledge of DNS exfil paid hotspot bypass etc to get past any Wi-Fi blocks, or just crack the password for any nearby hotel occupant hotspots if he wasn’t allowed internet access per his detainment.

My thought was he probably gave the initial foothold info to other lapsus members and they took it from there but you’re right he absolutely could have done at all himself.

Cinner,

The full source with assets included is what was leaked, that was my point. It’s 1TB. The leaker also made 2 other versions for people who don’t want to download 1TB since a lot of people don’t have that much spare space lying around for a copy of a games source.

Cinner,

It looks worse than it is because I tried to make it poetic. Though, therapy only works if you’re actually honest with your therapist about everything (and you can truthfully say you aren’t comfortable discussing something at that time, remaining honest and expressing boundaries) but I’m not even being honest with myself. When I can get to that point and get the courage to make the choices I know deep down are right for me, then maybe I’ll try therapy again.

Cinner,

I was just thinking… “this isn’t new, this is 2 decades old and called lynx” lol

edit: over 3 decades. the first version of lynx was released in 1992.

I’ve used it on Linux but I’m sure it can be used on Windows via WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux).

Cinner,

Hey Jim, when did Microsoft start releasing Windows phones with 27" screens?

Cinner,

Do you have an article about that?

Unless they get access to your unlocked phone (in which case you already fucked up the "don't talk to the police" part) how would they get invites or know who to talk to?

Cinner,

Maybe this isn't the right thing to do considering this is casualuk, but because it's showing at the top of all, and many users are new and don't yet automatically look at the sub name, I want to put a small reminder:

Fathers day is on Sunday the 18th in America. Also the 19th is a federal holiday.

Carry on friends across the pond, just want to prevent fediverse newbies from panicking.
