Every minimum wage job I’ve ever worked has been some kind of psychological nonsense to go along with the crap work. Rules that no one follows, schedules that shift constantly so you can never have a routine, random and incomplete accountability statistics to try and push people to “do better”, and it feels designed specifically to have a continually changing staff of minimum wage workers so they chances for benefits are as minimal as possible.

Meanwhile Beijing just banned working outside after 10 days of over 35c degree days. It’s really weird to watch this country unravel.

If anything, watching these people in our government do what they do gives me hope that more people will feel encouraged to take up running for government office.

If that’s all it takes to get in the bar for entry is lower than any other 6 figure job in this country. All you need is a platform, a high school diploma or ged, and enough people to see the letter R or D next to your name and think that you’d do fine. Might even go the extra step for a name change. First name “Congressman”, last name can stay the same. I’m sure there are districts this would absolutely work in.

Need hasn’t been a factor for these types of people ever. It’s not about amount in terms of survival, it’s a high score system. Earn more than the one who came before you, gain over other companies, get noted in some top # company scoreboard.

The entire system is set up to award this aggressive, destructive behavior as success. The largest change in recent times is the numbers getting so massive that it takes the most destructive and cutthroat policies to even get close to out doing those who came before.

It’s a bit of a tangent, but it’s also a good showing of mindset understanding. When the game Phantasy Star Online 2 was released in the “West” a few years ago, I played it with many friends. One of those friends became obsessed with accumulating in game currency and made it a goal. Many months later and enough real money spent to be life changing and not in the good way, they accomplished the goal of 1 billion currency. I wasn’t directly involved in anything dealing with that situation, but I had heard they had made it.

Not knowing the gossip had been spread around, that player asked me what I would do if I ever had 1 billion myself. The answer I gave was that I’d stop playing the game. I do not save money in the game long term. It’s there to be used (usually on market cosmetics so my character can wear a fancy hat)… but if I ever got the point where I had saved 1 billion, that would mean that the smaller goals of things I wanted to grab would be extinguished, and while being fashionable isn’t the main draw of the game, it is a major point for me. They responded with a bit of an “oh” and left. I don’t know what ever happened to that player, but I do hope they recovered from their billionaire curse.

Unless it’s a lump sum lottery type situation, I don’t think most people would ever save enough even if they had the means to do so to have a billion dollars. The only way it happens is when the goal is focused purely on “make money” with no actual goal for that money.

I started with kb+m and moved over to controller. With my particular setup, it’s better for longer play sessions to use a controller and I like being able to have move bound to it’s own area with no other interaction.

As for going the other direction, you’ll need to find a set of key binds for skills and particularly for rogue make sure you set left mouse to only move, which means that your mouse is pretty much only in charge of aiming and getting you around.

There are so many good resources already listed here, so I'm just going to suggest some simple things.

  1. Try out a few of the gender/shape/anthro swap apps to get a glimpse of a possible current you. See if you like what you see.
  2. If you're not interested in being a woman, but being a man doesn't quite float your boat either for any number of reasons, it's pretty easy to start looking into the non-binary side of things.

And that's pretty much it. Take your time and there are no wrong answers. Introspection can be tough at times, especially when others are set on forcing their perspectives on your life.

As soon as I heard RIF was shutting down I left reddit altogether. I don't have strong feelings about the official app one way or the other but the way in which the execs at reddit decided to handle this situation was more than enough to get me to move.

Why does no one make a Black and White-style game?

As long as we are talking about old games that are still the gold standard, how is it possible no one has recreated the giant-god-monster and city management game Black and White yet?! That game was fantastic, and its premise so solid. It seems ripe for replication in more contemporary engines.

Coskii,
@Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It's the perfect game type for VR as well. There have been a couple "you are a god" games already, but none of them are close to what black and white was.

I know mine is somewhere in June or July, so it's really more of the same. You would think I'd learn in 13 years which day it is, but much like my actual birthday, it's just another day.

This was basically my idea, though as I've been reading through other people's posts and thinking about it a bit harder, I'd rather have something like an accolade system, which is basically what you described except the accolades or emojis available are decided either by op or by topic.

Personally I don't think negative options are terribly important, however I can see how in some cases they would be useful to have.

I would hope that there would be a quick limit of 2 or 3 accolades per topic, and having the topic sorted by whichever accolade people would be interested in. Such as a science post being sorted by either "informative" or "accurate" replies.

A more general topic like Pic sharing could have a few different accolades to give the post a quick tag to be sorted by. Things like "cute", "interesting", or "gross".

Users would gain a small color bar of accolades as they use the platform with an overall number of all of them and a brief breakdown of which accolades they have the most of.

To keep it tidy, we'd just need to create a short but useful list of accolades that would fit pretty much any type of content we can imagine, and I'd be interested in seeing a few "super accolades" for certain account types, such as bots.

Pesticides, parasites, and starvation are the leading causes of bee deaths.

I would like to know how/why starvation is even possible in a managed colony.

And the article throwing out massive negative numbers like 48% and then mentioning that the actual population is pretty steady due to people splitting and making new colonies. It is still alarming, but I'm pretty sure looking at any pure death statistic without factoring in growth is going to look bad.

Am Coskii, use he/him.

Decided to join blahaj.zone after realizing I spent most of my time offering advice through egg_irl when I wasn't randomly talking about video games.

I'm an agender asexual which means I'm horribly level headed and had to go through a ton of trial and error to sort myself out.

For the memes... I must.

Look at them, they come to this place when they know they are not pure. Tenno use the keys, but they are mere trespassers. Only I, Vor, know the true power of the Void. I was cut in half, destroyed, but through it's Janus Key, the Void called to me. It brought me here and here I was reborn. We cannot blame these creatures, they are being led by a false prophet, an impostor who knows not the secrets of the Void. Behold the Tenno, come to scavenge and desecrate this sacred realm. My brothers, did I not tell of this day? Did I not prophesize this moment? Now, I will stop them. Now I am changed, reborn through the energy of the Janus Key. Forever bound to the Void. Let it be known, if the Tenno want true salvation, they will lay down their arms, and wait for the baptism of my Janus key. It is time. I will teach these trespassers the redemptive power of my Janus key. They will learn it's simple truth. The Tenno are lost, and they will resist. But I, Vor, will cleanse this place of their impurity.

But more seriously I'll think about it and edit later on.

Studying the Bible is always a hilarious way to spend time, especially when you take a REALLLY good look at the part about man laying with another man. It seems it may have been edited well after the fact. I had recently heard something similar about the original hebrew word being that a man shall not lay with a boy, which if true would be more about outlawing pedophilia, but I haven't looked it up myself so I cannot verify the validity.

I was mentioning two separate things. The article linked did indeed day man with male, but then proceeds to point out how it doesn't really fit with the rest of them, and yes it is very much opinion.

The other bit I had heard from a random podcast that was not at all about religion, and so while I find it interesting that they had heard it a different way, it's very much unverified as it's just word of mouth from random people and not language experts.

Random side note: I'm also not a subscriber and managed to get into the whole article.. I guess my pop up blocker isn't playing around these days.

Star trek has many games. I enjoyed watching the VR bridge simulator one with a few popular internet personalities joining together to attempt and figure out the hilariously obtuse switch board on the original Enterprise.

Every Christmas I sit down and play the same map Christmas map in Viscera Cleanup Detail.

As for playing tradition. I will always fall back on Tyrian 2000, which I have dubbed as the best use of 15 megabytes you can use. It's a top down shmup from the way back that has a lot of gameplay, plenty of awesome weapons, secrets, and a decent mobile port.

I've been enjoying the idle game Egg Inc. It is a fairly enjoyable and free to play "numbers go up" type game. They don't force ads on the players, but they are encouraged. For the past few updates they have been removing little bits of the free to play friendly features, and increased prices on some of the premium stuff, but it's still a decent way to toss an hour or two into a day.

Pronouns are like hats, many can fit you but you will inevitably find one you like more than the others. There's no rush in finding yours. Feel free to try on a few and see how they fit you. Exploring yourself as a person is a life long journey and if you happen to find you are more comfortable with they/them instead of the given he/him, go for it.

This coming from an agender who just wants my pronouns to fit my appearance at the time. And thanks to being a dad-bodded construction worker, it's basically going to stick with he/him in person for most of my life.

Coskii,
@Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

If you can't do it in person due to unsupportive types, there are plenty of sympathetic discords you could join to strike up a few conversations within then to try them on. One of the ones I'm in has a very active voice chat and often has groups hanging out and playing games.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues, though I am delighted to hear that you've noticed them. That really is the main step needed to correct the upbringing bug. I'm currently working on getting a few relatives who are transphobic to realize the hateful stuff they put on social media is really not OK.

[Bug] Changed my Password on the Website.

And ever since I changed my password, logging in through Jerboa puts me in a shrödinger state of access. I can see my subs and local posts but trying to view my profile or post will return a "not_logged_in" error or ask me to "Login First", and then disconnects the login account I was on and erases the login details for it....

As the simplest catch all to your question:

People prefer cars when they do not have access to adequate public transit.

If the transit is unsafe, untimely, or unsanitary, then it is not adequate. I live in an area of the US with a robust transit system comparatively and even it isn't adequate. You don't need a car to get pretty much anywhere but the travel times are at a minimum 2x due to how sparsely things are scheduled off peak times. They're a bit closer during peak times though.

I honestly miss the free time I had while taking the buses and trains to read news or play games, but since work requires quite a hefty list of materials, and can randomly shift during a day, I need the mobility of a personal vehicle these days.
