@mjtsai Definitely agree with most of your points here. On the topic of compiler messages, though, I feel like wacky errors these days mostly come from SwiftUI's unusual use of the language. More traditional code seems to emit largely sane diagnostics.

I've spent little time writing Objective-C though, so my points of reference may be different!

Fun fact about the M4 iPad Pro: it’s the first device to support and use Apple's new Secure Indicator Light (SIL) mechanism. When using the microphone or camera, the corresponding indicator dot is effectively rendered in hardware, making it a lot less likely that any malware or user space app would be able to access those sensors without the user’s knowledge.

@danherbert The biggest difference is that the iPad's indicator light is not a separate LED—it's an image, displayed on-screen! I wonder how they went about implementing that

@czottmann Cyan did release a bajillion Myst remakes, but this is the first one for Riven! And they've released a couple of original games in the last decade: Obduction and Firmament.

Even this Riven remake apparently adds and changes a ton of things, though, so I'm super excited to experience the new stuff 😃

@wigging I managed to get two, last WWDC! One design, one AppKit. These are probably not representative in terms of demand; but my takeaway is that you should try. It's pretty quick to do a request, and getting to talk to Apple peeps sure is nice.

Pouvoir prendre le métro en bippant avec l’iPhone : un plaisir renouvelé à chaque voyage.

L’expérience est meilleure que le paiement sans contact du métro lyonnais car la carte Navigo est une « carte de transport express » : pas besoin de Face ID, il suffit de poser le téléphone sur la borne et c’est validé en moins d’une seconde. Cela fonctionne même si l’iPhone n’a plus de batterie !

Même l’expérience d’achat est meilleure car elle a lieu directement dans l’app Cartes et ne demande aucune saisie. L’app IDF redemandait l’e-mail à chaque rechargement 🤦‍♂️

I haven’t formed my thoughts fully, but I think about this often: running a more ethical, less extractive and capitalist business.

I’ve spent years doing this and what surprised me was the lack of appreciation for “doing things right”. I thought there was a certain audience (often, the indie web one) who would. but mostly what I’ve seen was heavily entrenched capitalism.

Does "flexibleSpace" in for macOS not work correctly?

Anything besides a Spacer() that's required in the item?

@stroughtonsmith @ctietze In my experience, even with a sidebar tracker, flexible spaces won't do anything, when using the "everything on one row" style. You do have to use the older toolbar layout.

Just found these Apple Maps navigation screenshots from 2013. Delicious.

Same as the first screenshot, except the app is open, instead of being on the lock screen. There's a turn notification on top, which has texture and styles to look like an actual road sign, to some degree.
