This week the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the drug lecanemab after research showed it slowed the progression of Alzheimer’s disease in some patients with mild cognitive impairment....
Key point that this glossed over: because this drug targets the protein amyloid, it is only really effective before the point that amyloid reaches a critical level. Once this happens (the exact point is still unknown), other changes occur which leads to permanent brain damage. The drug will then no longer work to prevent the disease.
This article states that amyloid PET (brain scans to detect presence of abnormal amyloid early) is not covered by insurance, but there are new blood tests that may perform as well. My lab is working on validating these blood tests. Keep an eye on new studies being released next week on the 16th, which is the first day of the annual Alzheimers Association conference
It’s a violation of the spirit of the law, just not the letter (yet). It’s a good bet that it will be updated soon, especially when you consider that copyright laws get regularly updated to protect the IP of large corporations
Becsuse you don’t move to the next phase until you reach a milestone. The embrace is the first step, to convert a small percentage of users of the original platform. Once you have those, you extend your features to have those users recruit more users to that specific instance or implementation, since they are more feature-rich or stable or whatever. Then once you have a critical point of users on your instance, you defederate from all others and develop your walled garden which now has all the users and the content.
This is also why medical studies never use accuracy as a measure if the disorder being studied is in any way rare. Sensitivity and specificity or positive/negative likelihood ratios are more common

It’s one thing to have differing views, but I’ve seen enough attempted reddit migrations to be relieved that the popular communities in the fediverse so far haven’t been about crazy racist stuff or other extreme right bullshit....
Using the word “retard” as a derogatory term is pretty offensive to those born with developmental defects. It’s similar to how we used to use “gay” in a similar way a few decades ago. It’s pretty shitty.
I didn’t say anything about banning you, or stopping your speech. Just pointing out that most people look down on those who use that kind of derogatory language.
That’s sounds tough. You should probably not report people for generally benign speech, though, just because you personally find it offensive. Have you tried simply informing others of your problem with this language?

This is just standard operating procedure for conservatives. The “in group” is fickle, and can be split at any time, because there must always be conflict with an “out group”. If there aren’t enough out groups, they cannibalize themselves.
