I'm turning 40 in a month. My wife asked me what I want for my birthday.

All I could think of was: power tools

More specifically, a compressor and lots of attachments to paint, nail and what not.

@yabellini @gvwilson in my world, there must be chocolate-something on my birthday. cake, mousse, icecream. There must be chocolate, and it must have been prepared somehow (i.e., you are not getting away with a simple bar of chocolate... Unless it's a mega pack of kinder.... I might forgive that 🤣)

Thank you continuous backups! I was working in RStudio and the git pane was showing "./" as being staged and I was unable to unstage it. It displayed a small amount of code from one R function, so I just reverted it after backing up that file... which reverted ALL the files in the repo to their last state (with days worth of work being gone) 😬 😬 😬

Thankfully I was able to pull versions of the files from an hour prior from backblaze, with minimal work lost

The position is suited for a person with an interest in and experience with signal and image processing. Imaging of the human brain by MRI and PET is central to LCBC research

Developing and maintaining existing data pipelines and infrastructure (MRI, PET and EEG)

My Macbook's habit of intentionally not using the power cable and draining its battery just before I want to use it while traveling is getting very annoying.

At the least it could give some sort of message before entering battery-drain mode?? thanks .

@joelnitta i believe there is a setting to turn off the intelligent charging mode (or what it's called). When travelling I make sure I have that turned off so it charges when the cable is in always.

@jimgar I have no experience with neovim, so I couldn't really say. But all jokes aside, its for sure an IDE, even if it is also a cult :P

@ronblum RStudio is basically the IDE that has allowed me to flourish and become opinionated about these things. I think I'll also always have an RStudio bias, even if vscode has certain features that I prefer.

@adamhsparks nice to know my idiosyncrasies are not so idiosyncratic after all! 😊

Ive never tried neovim, its not available on the server i ssh into, which is the main place i use him, as I can't call a UI in there. Maybe I can ask for it, now that we are getting an upgrade from redhat 7 to rocky9... Would be fin to give it a go. Though, as I understand, it needs extensions to really work well, and I am unsure of how much time IT wants to dedicate to that.

@milesmcbain Interesting. Whenever I've talked to people about emacs + ESS they've not been particularly happy about how it worked and have been very positive to RStudio when it came along.
