Morning friends.
QOTD today... What is the dumbest and least practical car that you would be willing to daily?

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@Basmitharts
My only car is a manual soft-top ND2 Miata that I drive in the NYC metro area, so I’d count that as the least practical car I’d be willing to drive. Kind of a dumb decision, too, depending on how you look at it. Screw the haters though.

Otherwise? Gotta be a two-door Mini.

I’m having intrusive thoughts about what Bob Dylan would look like with Tok Tok Broccoli hair.

I’ve mostly been a fan through the Skyactiv era (I’ve leased/owned three of ‘em) and I loved the mechanical simplicity, reliability, and driving dynamics.

I kinda like where the brand is going, but I don’t appreciate when it comes at the cost of handling — like the Mazda3 switching to a torsion-beam rear suspension.

Sounds like their newest crossovers are great driver’s cars (for what they are). The CX-50 with the turbo-4 is so sweet.

Now you’re making me think about my brand loyalties. I have a few that I’m loyal to, for sure (Apple, Converse, Mazda), though I think that’s because they make products I’m genuinely satisfied with.

I think brand loyalty gets into a bad place when one starts buying products that are unnecessary or subpar, just because their favorite brand released it.

All that being said, “loyalty is for people” is totally righteous.

Autocorrect is intentionally bad with certain words and makes intentional unnecessary corrections as a way of manipulating speech and controlling thought. It alters the words and phrases you use by artificially changing the difficulty of entering them, training you away from words and phrases "they" don't like.

@wheeljack
I hear that iOS 17 has improved autocorrect significantly. Can’t wait to give that a try.

I thought this was a joke when I saw it. Mercedes unveiled the “g-class”. A smaller less expensive “G-class” (please note the capitalization.
Press is calling it “baby g”

Time to find out how broken it is I guess...🤞

I played it a bit when it first dropped, but those were the dark days. The game truly was not good at that point. I still had fun, though. Didn’t get to the center of the universe that first time.

Also played it around 2021 with a friend. I don’t game much so I thought it was extra cool that we were cross platform — I was on a PS4 and he was on a PC.

Jayden and I had a wonderful time this past weekend while we were at my dad’s place in Callicoon, NY. Perfect weather, great food, and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the serene setting.

Edit: I made sure to get in one last wear of my white pants, haha.

Scored an old(ish?) copy of The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour. This was my first Beatles CD back in the day and funny enough it’s my first Beatles vinyl.

I was at a (pricy) local vinyl shop in upstate NY and I was able to talk the shop owner way down on the price — and got him to include the 24-page color booklet, which was taken out of this copy.

The owner of the shop cleans every single record that he sells and it shows. The disc was spotless. Sound quality is also very good. Worth the buy.

Reminiscing about some of the shitty pop-punk music I listened to in high school. God, some of it was cringey.

Back in 2016 Mayday Parade released an all-new, higher-fidelity recording of their debut EP, “Tales Told By Dead Friends” on the 10th anniversary of its original release. Sound quality is vastly improved, though that wasn’t a high bar to clear.

Jay and I kinda see Mad Men like Succession, Breaking Bad, or The Sopranos — the protagonists are terrible people. We hate all the misogyny, racism, etc., but I guess the point is that we’re supposed to hate it.

Kinda reminds me of the movie “The Whale.” None of the characters in the movie are all-good or all-bad and that makes them feel so much more genuine.

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@John
Jayden & I have been watching Mad Men together and there’s a scene where the kids (ages ~3 & ~5) are wrestling and climbing all over the seats in the family station wagon.

They got in a low-speed accident and the kids ended up on the floor behind the front seats. No injuries, but it was a stark example of what could happen at the time.

@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@ZeKik
Yeah… on second thought I think I agree. The style is undeniable, though.

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@John
Totally agree. Since I’m a ‘96 baby it was drilled into me that I need to wear a seatbelt all the time. Not sure when that became the cultural norm. Feels incredibly uncomfortable to not have both the lap and shoulder straps.

And about The Whale — what a phenomenal film. I’ve never cried so hard & long because of a movie. Can’t recommend it enough.

Brendan Fraser’s performance was jaw-dropping. He seemingly put everything he had into this role and it paid off. The “Brenaissance” is real.
