I re- via The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman ( 3/His Dark Materials). One of my longtime faves, this 3rd of a trilogy is the epic you'd expect. @bookstodon

I Finding A Purple Unicorn by Sean Michael ( 3/Starting Over). This MM single dads is by far my favorite of 2024 so far. It was fun & it went by fast. TW for custody argument, ex drama, & a neglectful parent (not a main character). Also some bdsm/spanking references. No need to read the first 2 . 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 @romancebooks

Finally my own read. I finally read The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt and basically inhaled it. Also I'm now thinking about how many kitchen scraps a wolfhound/mastiff mix would snarf down on a daily basis https://wendythesuperlibrarian.blogspot.com/2024/02/tbrchallenge-2024-raven-prince.html @romancelandia

I as The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by James Daniel Brown. This 2014 biopic has recently come to attention because of the Clooney film. The is more accurate. I want to watch a rowing regatta now. This was my first Spotify audiobook. @bookstodon

I A Masquerade With a Marquess ( 8/Lords of Temptation). The blurb is a little off - the MMC does marry the FMC knowing she's blind, but also for all the wrong reasons. TW for jealousy and paternal abuse. I may follow up with more from the series, not sure yet. @romancebooks

? I finished Every Time I fall by Lexi Ryan. TBH, I had intended not to read her again, because the last book was anti-abortion, but I could not resist the gorgeous fat woman on the cover of this. (And I got it from the library.)

Characters have loved each other forever, but each has bad insecurities that make them think the other could never want to be with them. cont.

@willaful @romancelandia I'm re-reading an old category romance from Signet Regency called The Rake & The Wallflower. It's a comfort read in a Very Stressful week. And I'm listening to The Boys In The Boat by Daniel James Brown. But I might be like 30 Spotify minutes short of being able to finish it so I'm going slowly!

ElleSabine,
@ElleSabine@romancelandia.club avatar

@willaful @romancelandia lol. It means the version of Spotify I have includes 15 hr of audiobook listening a month for free (without "buying" the book, and this book is 15 hr & 30 min long)....

I re- as Four In Hand by Stephanie Laurens. This has very little sex in it & a lot of flirting. It follows 4 sisters in one shorter - it was one of her earliest . I like this type of writing but I know it's out of date. @romancebooks

I as The Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman ( 2/His Dark Materials). I did enjoy the HBO Max series but I think I will always love the best. Lyra meets Will and they continue a quest to understand Dust. Or, you know, their fathers, the Holy Spirit, the Authority, and themselves. @bookstodon

I Twins for the Wild Orc by Michele Mills (Sweet Monster Treats). If Mills wrote it, I'm probably going to ❤️ it, & I did (even orcs). Besides the title trope of unplanned babies, the is a reunion meant for at Halloween. Short & charming. @romancebooks

I The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton. This early by Crichton felt like it didn't age well and ended too early in the evolution of the strain. But it was written in the 1960s & probably seemed technology & scientifically advanced for the time. I didn't dislike it, I just expected to enjoy it more. @bookstodon

I as The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien (prelude to Lord of the Rings). I prefer the narration I have by Rob Inglis, but it doesn't appear to be available to buy anymore. Obv this is a repeat for me (abt once/year). It's a core memory for me as a parent, so someday I want to read the aloud again with a curious & fantasy-loving youngling - that's probably a pipe dream unless the wee one is a dog or cat. @bookstodon

I via Love and Other Wild Things by Molly Harper ( 2/Mystic extra. Bayou). Bear shifter Zed falls in love (first) with a commitment-phobic energy witch. This is in the Audible Premium Plus catalog, so I didn't pay extra. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ @romancebooks

I Seeing Blind by Poppy Dale. This M/M 🏳️‍🌈 from 2021 has one MC with a severe case of prosopagnosia (face blindness). It's charming. TW for homophonic parent, secrets, dating apps, & online relationships. @romancebooks

For the December "Festive", I A Cyborg for Christmas by Clarissa Lake ( 1/Based On Cyborg Awakenings). Having first read book2, I went back to this 36 page snack when I realized I could still do the challenge (I've been a number of holiday-themed this month.) In this post-apocalyptic future, the FMC is genetically matched to a cyborg mate at Christmas. 🎅 @romancelandia

I as The Witness by Nora Roberts. Despite the hundreds of she’s written, I’m a 48yo Roberts virgin; she’s always been the of my mother & MIL’s generation. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love good plots that don’t rely on dramatic breakups & makeups. While very white & not written specifically with this diagnosis of the FMC, she very much seemed to me as high-functioning autistic. @romancebooks @romancelandia

I Gnome Sweet Gnome by Elva Birch ( 2/Lawn Ornament Shifters) today because rn it’s (not sure how long that will last), and because the cover & title made me laugh. This shorter-length Christmas story takes rom-com almost to absurd . Get ready for a jewel thief owl shifter to meet her mate as a Norwegian gnome factory owner. @romancebooks

I Claimed by the Barbarian Warlords by Charmaine Ross ( 1/Stolen Planet). I think it’s great when FMCs assert & fight for their own agency, but the burden of assholery behavior that provokes the fight for independence often rests on the MMC(s) in that plot line. This is the case for this story. I wanted to kick the alien warlords for being dumbasses for 75% of the book. @romancebooks

I Snowed In With A Dragon by Sara Ivy Hill. This Christmas of a sweet stalkerish dragon who waits for his girl until her boyfriend cheats on her is a little red-flaggy if you want your to be perfectly socially acceptable. Hill does honor consent. @romancebooks

@ALostInquirer not yet. Since it’s a one day sale, I only went through the list and added them to my library today - haven’t read them yet. But, as a generalization, I have loved other books by Sara Ivy Hill and Elin Wyn, and I’m likely to read their books in this list first.

I via When She’s Ready by Ruby Dixon. The audiobook is both When She’s Ready and When She’s Lonely. Both are very pro-consent post-slavery human-alien . I find these Risdaverse entertaining & mostly safe, more so than her other series. (I ❤️Ruby even when it’s scary.) @romancebooks

I want to add something to this post about the 2nd in this compilation: When She’s Lonely by Ruby Dixon. The FMC in this story has significant hearing loss that impacts her daily quality of life. If you look for stories of MCs with disabilities, and like or at least accept human-alien & sex, I recommend this. I recommend it anyway, but especially if this is in your areas of interest. @romancebooks @romancelandia
