FancyPantsFIRE,

I guess it depends on the labor market, it could mean more competition for the same pool of game developers.

FancyPantsFIRE,

Jokes on them, we used IVF, they got picked for who knows what reason under a microscope.

From your most photogenic swimmer.

FancyPantsFIRE,

This is my time to shine, my body is full of useless, I can:

  • gleek intentionally (saving people a search: it’s causing the salivary glands under your tongue to shoot saliva, people often do it unintentionally when yawning)
  • open my jaw wide enough that it goes out of socket, and twofer I can then move it side to side and produce a loud popping noise
  • bend my thumb down to my wrist
  • cause my heart rate to spike for short periods even when at rest
  • make a three leaf clover with my tongue
  • click my tongue extremely loudly
FancyPantsFIRE,

It has “force”, but it’s not very impressive, I can shoot saliva in approximately a 1ft / 30cm arch.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I’d love to see more content and engagement. It’s hard when you’re a niche community within a niche platform. More posts amongst the same small set of voices may or may not end up leading to meaningful engagement.

Perhaps a parallel question to consider that ties in with your goal of helping more people improve their financial lives: What content would attract new members to the community? Naively the back to basics type focus seems like something that could be welcoming for newcomers, even just explaining what FIRE is and how the (Shocking Simple™) math works.

Honestly it’s a shame there wasn’t a meaningful migration of FIRE folks from reddit to lemmy.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I don’t know, I keep seeing Christopher Walken when I see these pictures of the kid.

FancyPantsFIRE,

Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, we’re all going to die. Come watch TV.

FancyPantsFIRE,

Might be a solid strategy to combat debt collection agencies. They buy overdue debt at steep discounts and then harass people and collect on some portion, enough to make a profit overall. Dealing with sovcits probably has negative expected value vs whatever debt they are trying to collect.

Can you imagine sovcits unintentionally doing societal good by sovciting debt collection agencies? The mind boggles.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I assume hard cases here refer to people who aren’t responsive or put ups fight?

I’d imagine a motivated sovcit could be way more of a pain because they cause active headaches with frivolous filings and wasting time vs just not paying. Though maybe I’m giving them too much credit or debt collectors too little credit.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I was mostly musing on the schadenfreude of sovcits unleashed upon debt collectors. Your advice (or probably anything other than pretending to be a sovcit) is almost certainly better for someone actually going through debt collections.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I’ll have you know roachfee is a sustainable alternative to pure coffee. /s

More seriously it looks like this is primarily based on anecdotes and was directed at ground coffee vs whole beans.

FancyPantsFIRE,

You’re not going to be encouraged by everything else they allow.

Though I think (anyone feel free to jump in if I’ve got it wrong) that the coffee limits are not 10% non-coffee matter by weight but rather 10% of beans demonstrating insect damage/infestation/mold. This is not exactly reassuring, but it’s almost certainly far less insects than 10% of your coffee bag’s weight being ground up buggies. You can read about the FDA’s coffee analysis process which is interesting, if somewhat opaque.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I’m pretty sure all insect fragments, rodent droppings, and the like all vanish as soon as they cross the EU border in accordance with food safety regulations. /s

I did start reading into said EU regulations a bit, but I won’t ruin your day.

FancyPantsFIRE,

For those not aware it was a comic first, which if I recall correctly the cartoon only covers the first half of or so.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I enjoyed the show as a kid and only found out about the comic later as an adult. It’s probably why the show sticks with me and I don’t remember much about the comic.

FancyPantsFIRE,

Poe’s law has only gotten more true over the last couple of decades.

FancyPantsFIRE,

I’ll let you know when it happens. 😅 I’m solidly in OMY syndrome.

I think I’ll stop in the next year or three, but that might just be the one more year syndrome talking.

Why I think I’ll do it:

  • Decreasing benefit to additional savings, I’m looking for more buffer, not lifestyle creep
  • Less interest and satisfaction with work — as I’ve climbed the ladder it’s become more politics and fiefdoms, it’s where the money is but not what I enjoy
  • I’d like to spend more time with my kids as they get out of toddlerhood, I work a lot and have to travel several times a year, it’s not the best balance and I doubt I’ll look back and wish I spent less time with my kids
FancyPantsFIRE,

I don’t know, it looks pretty sturdy to me.

FancyPantsFIRE,

… Now I’m curious how you change the oil.
