FilterItOut,

Look, if a raccoon can get down my esophagus to the sphincter, he’s welcome to the acid bath.

FilterItOut,

The others have pretty much answered about it, but specifically, it’s a very intense, very personal therapy, with some sessions lasting up to 8 hours. It’s typically one-on-one with the therapist, who will be observing every behavior and rewarding behaviors that are desired. I haven’t heard of any that do it around here, but I am sure some therapists ‘punish’ for behaviors that they do not want to see again.

As was noted in the other replies, it can be extremely demeaning to reduce a person to their behaviors alone, and a great abyss lies next to the feet of any therapist that easily conceals abusive or immoral practices… and those feet are on a slippery slope of scree.

FilterItOut,

Thank you for your service.

FilterItOut,

I suppose it’s time to pirate WC3, SC2, and brood war rather than play them on the account I bought them on.

FilterItOut,

Buccees apparently does not allow tractor trailers. Found that out the hard way.

FilterItOut,

Just asked to leave by an employee as I pulled around to the back.

FilterItOut,

So they’re admitting that the bible really is just a series of fever-dreams? Cool.

Only some cereals are soups. Lucky charms in milk is a soup. Frosted Flakes in milk is not. A soup has to be a collection of different ingredients in a liquid medium.

Is Trix a soup? I have no clue.

'I will not feed a demon': YouTuber Ruby Franke's child abuse case rooted in religious extremism (apnews.com)

The malnourished and badly bruised son of a parenting advice YouTuber politely asks a neighbor to take him to the nearest police station in newly released video from the day his mother and her business partner were arrested on child abuse charges in southern Utah....

FilterItOut,

When it comes to mormons, never forget that they had networks of their pastors and elders to hide and ignore abuse. They were more systematic about it than the cuntish catholics.

FilterItOut,

This person’s actions are an outlier, but the beliefs are not. My own mother held very similar ones during my early years, and the circle of women at the church was not shy in voicing their opinions which, oh so outlier-like, were also similar to this woman’s. That was in an eastern US state, in a protestant church. Don’t forget that the US had the (insanity of) belief in the childcare cults of satan, that D&D was from satan, that rock music was the road to satan, etc. Those were massive, widespread beliefs. They haven’t gone away entirely. Talk to members of a rural church, and you’ll hear the subtle hints of all those things, but they’ve learned not to be overt.

FilterItOut,

My favoured form is a moderately athletic slightly be-tummied greying spinster.

That sounds like it might drive me obsessively insane, btw.

FilterItOut,

Yeah, chimneys are for rich folks with brick houses.

FilterItOut,

No, and yes. You can start a brand new account on the first day of a league and be at par with everyone else. The vast majority of the game is accessible with no demands on you aside from time and skill. Every purchase you make is cosmetic only, simply changing the way some spells look or giving you a pet that follows you around and looks cool while doing nothing extra.

The one exception? Stash tabs. Tabs that specialize in holding certain items for you in your stash. Tabs that let you sell items to others with greater ease. It has gotten to the point where if you want to be best of the best, you should probably have the extra tabs. Why? Because at the endgame, you’ll need to start trading for items that make your build sing, or simply eke out the extra 15% damage that multiplies with other sources to make your dps soar into the millions, because PoE is all about finding something that you can push past where it was supposed to stop being good. Without those stash tabs, making cool items or easily trading with others is much more difficult.

Now, how much would it cost you to be ‘competitive’ with tabs? Probably $10 at most. For a game that I’ve played for over a decade and probably 1000-2000 hours at this point, I think the <$100 bucks I’ve thrown their way is worth it. I have friends who love the game and likely have 3k+ hours in it, and they’ve only spent $150 or so. I think that’s pretty reasonable for that much enjoyment.

Escaped white supremacist inmate and accomplice still at large after Idaho hospital ambush (apnews.com)

Authorities are searching for a white supremacist Idaho prison inmate and an accomplice who fled after the accomplice shot and wounded corrections officers as they were transporting the inmate from a Boise hospital, according to police....

FilterItOut,

It will depend on the state’s laws, but often the level of crime for attempted murder is the same as for aggravated battery/assault. Especially if the battery/assault is on uniformed personnel. The difficulty of proving the mens rea for assault/battery is much lower than that of attempted murder. Thus, they charge for the crime they can much more easily win on in court.

FilterItOut,

One thing to point out is that Columbus wasn’t challenging established thinking about the earth’s shape, but rather its size. The educated populace at the time was on the ball with the earth being a sphere.

FilterItOut,

It’s the exact same phenomenon that several other fandoms or belief groups have gone through. First, start a satirical society and laugh about the foolishness with boon companions. Enjoy the companionship. Second, expand so that the society doesn’t die when you leave college or the location. Begin recruiting folks and telling them about your society. Third, watch as people join and some don’t realize it’s satirical. Disbelief dawns on the originals. Fourth, the true believers take over as the people in on the joke slowly leave due to all sorts of reasons, including no longer finding the society funny because of the true believers.

I watched it happen with bronies (not the furry sexual folks, 4chan already had those, but just people who were really, really into the show) on 4chan, a ‘drinking’ club at my college that was a joke because they only drank water at the meetings (at first, anyway), and a local activity (can’t name it because it’s specific and would give it away) club that was truly supposed to be just a social gathering but is now populated by a gaggle of 70 year old women fervently taking part.

FilterItOut,

Hopefully it’s all in my head. We’ll see if I ever experience the personal touch of a noodly appendage.

FilterItOut,

If the Irish do say goodbye, England won’t even know what’s happening until it’s too late.

FilterItOut,

I seem to recall a statistic about Russia’s monthly or yearly oil seepage from their pipelines being greater than the deepwater horizon spill. It’s terrifying to think about how much contamination there must be globally from similar nation-states or corporations who simply lack any concern. People should be losing their minds. Maybe if we had crucified the exxon incident waaaaay back when…

FilterItOut,

Or, seeing as it’s billionaire bullshit, it will be an ecological disaster. What do you want to offer for the odds that it will have shit navigation, and throws out pings every 3 seconds if submerged? Goodbye local wildlife, recreational diving, and all other activities taking place underwater.

FilterItOut,

My friend got sucked into it because of a girl. His parents weren’t religious. I don’t think he had gone to church more than twice in his life by high school, and he, just like the rest of us, trash talked our school’s requirements to have a ‘chapel’ hour once a week. He was as blasé as they come about religion, perhaps an agnostic in the christian hemisphere at best, but when he started dating a christian girl, he went to church with her, made friends with her friends at church, etc. Now 15 years later he’s indoctrinating his kids with her, and a deacon at his church. The power of social influence is enormous. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to break free, or even just consider information that is contradictory, if you have the combination of early influence and the later social influence from family, friends, and the wider social circle that is part and parcel of a church.

Apex Legends streamers surprised to find aimbot and other hacks added to their PCs in the middle of major competition via anti-cheat software (www.pcgamer.com)

Wow it finally happened. So glad I switched to steam running on linux mint last week. I refused to install helldivers because it wanted to install some no holds barred god level permissions anti-cheat software. Windows 11 was the last straw for me. Good times…...

FilterItOut,

That was a strange path my mind took as I read the title, thinking it was a satire piece about competitors trying to sneak in cheats… Like, the “Anti-Cheat Police Department” couldn’t be anything but a laughingstock.

FilterItOut,

I know they do here in the USA. A family friend finally moved from the field to the anchor position in a decent sized city (not even a top-50 metropolitan population) and was making nearly 7 figures. I would bet the giant areas (LA, NYC, Houston, Miami, Chicago, etc) must be raking it in.

Of course, you could probably attenuate that salary a bit because of how the job market has been moving in the last three decades, so take these numbers as less accurate than the back of the napkin numbers. We might be in shit stall territory.

FilterItOut,

What edition are we in? Because “I roll to disbelieve!” tells me that an illusion is all in the mind… >.>

<.<

FilterItOut,

I used to help people apply, and it was hellacious when there was animosity from one parent due to a divorce. It could really fuck things up for the poor kids.
