As an autist who has encountered bullying throughout my life, men have generally been kinder to me than women. Women seems to “sniff” out my otherness and sideline me for it. Men seem to take it easy on me.

So I think the argument is unfairly gendered. I’ve encountered enough women who’re just as malicious and damaging as the men bear-choosing people are avoiding. A mean woman would leave me to die in the forest while she fends for herself. In middle and high school, I was only ever physically threatened by a girl bullies. So idk, I am biased by my trauma I guess.

Edit to say that I know rape is worse than being bullied. I regret saying anything now. I was answering the question from my pov (man vs bear) and not trying to downplay the tough choice women have wrt their safety.

Physically, sure. But psychologically? There’s the issue that people in your community would do this to you.

If it’s a race-based attack, then the kind of contingent which carries it out is obvious. But I think it’s telling that people like that are only capable of punching down, know they can’t lift a finger against their actual jailers and enslavers—the ruling class.
