I've started to learn to enjoy programming again and want to make a new project (essentially I want to take the parts of MusicBee I miss going to other music players).

My only thing is... this project I want to make, I'm not sure if I should make it in Python, which is the one I have most experience with, or another programming language. I have decent experience with PyQt at this point.

For something like a music library organiser (which is basically just a glorified database management system for music), performance is key, and Quod Libet can be quite sluggish, so I'm reluctant to choose Python for that reason... but I don't know what language to go to from Python. Rust, maybe? rust-cxx is a thing, so...

A little while ago, I asked people on fedi on how to get into extreme metal and got some helpful insight from the responses. At the same time, Apple Music dropped a track from Necrophobic's "In the Twilight Grey" into my New Music Playlist and I thought it was good enough to check the album out in its entirety.

And I just listened to the album. And honestly? It's great. The extreme metal recs I get from friends and such tend to be hit or miss as I'm not that well versed in the scene, so whether Apple could provide a hit was up in the air - thankfully for them this was very much a slam dunk.

TBH and this might just be me being a fucking weirdo or extreme night owl but, seeing the sky go dark during totality would honestly be cooler to me than seeing the eclipse in general. Just seeing the lights go off on the planet completely.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure on what distro to go for now. Maybe I'm just being paranoid here, but the xz backdoor stuff has made me skeptical of bleeding-edge rolling releases, however Arch is like, the only OS where everything works for me. Fedora 39 has a problem with Bluetooth not working. Bleh. Trying Pop!_OS right now.

friends and I were watching this video of this great artist named Harry Gold a while back (context: he was trying to see if AI was better than him - spoiler: no) and he did these great robot representations of ChatGPT and Copilot/Bing Image Creator. He even gave ChatGPT a cute voice.

There's mis-info on fedi about the furry who got fired from NASA for saying "suck my dick and balls i'm working at NASA" to Homer Hickam, who's at the National Space Council that oversees NASA.

While yes, she was fired, Hickam had stated that the had tried to get her a job afterwards, and it seems like NASA found the post independently of Hickam from searching on Twitter. Given that I've seen mis-info on fedi at times other than this, I'm more inclined to believe Hickam here. Snopes has an archive of the post, including a link from the Wayback Machine.

Not to mention, I'm very sure she recently got a new job and celebrated it referencing this incident. I remember a screenshot going round going along the lines of "this time I won't tell my higher-ups to suck my dick and balls. That's a mistake you only make once."
