I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone outside of little old ladies actually drive the speed limit on 465 when traffic is moving.

IDF shoots Palestinians leaving with their meals using U.S.-delivered weapons.

America: “We’re helping!”

Iowa Fertilizer Spill Kills Nearly All Fish Across 60-Mile Stretch of Rivers (www.nytimes.com)

“I refer to this one as ‘the big one,’” said the official, Matt Combes, an ecological health unit science supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation. He added: “Calling something a near-total fish kill for 60 miles of a river is astounding and disheartening.”

Coming soon to a river near you once SCOTUS strikes down Chevron.

Yes, that’s exactly right. Their aggressive base natures resulted in both a nuclear holocaust on Vulcan and Romulans going into (probably self-) exile. At some point in there, Surak came along and brought Vulcan into a golden age with the embrace of logic and the purging of emotion.

People are going to think the 2020s were weird in half a century when they watch Discovery, SNW, Lower Decks, etc.

Serenity? That’s a different sci-fi series.

Corporations are people up to and until they have to face any consequences.

My mother used to keep a brick in the car for this reason. I probably should too.

FlyingSquid,

I’ll look into that. Thanks.

Looks good, thanks!

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Then again, the guy who said that is dead.

One tastes good, the other does not.

Could be. We still don’t know why people became sedentary farmers over hunter-gatherers, but it’s happened many times in history.

Somehow, farming happened independently but around the same time around the world, between 8000 and 10000 years ago. This is everywhere from Europe to the Americas to New Guinea, all apparently independently of each other!

FlyingSquid,

What’s love got to do with it?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Beer was one of the first processed foods, but I don’t think that was the reason for the development of agriculture.

They were farming taro on New Guinea 10,000 years ago. There’s no tradition, as far as I know, of making alcohol from taro.

He never blatantly says it, but there’s definitely a “wink wink, nudge nudge” thing going on. That said, plenty of early Christians didn’t consider him THE son of god, just A son of god.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

We know a fair amount of what the Gnostics believed because we have found very early copies of Gnostic gospels. But it’s debated about whether or not to call them Christians.

Religions throughout history have held that we must act altruistically and help others, though adherents often don’t respect that part of it all.

Yep. The Fourth Pillar of Islam is to give to the poor. The House of Saud couldn’t give less of a shit about the poor.

Saudi Arabia has crippling poverty and people living in slums.

I agree. There needs to be some sort of way of removing truly dangerous or at least damaging people while still preserving the jobs of women like this one.

Serious question for people younger than me: How did you come up with a signature if you didn’t learn cursive?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yep. 46 here. Rough drafts in print, final drafts in cursive in elementary school.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Not only did it look like a 2 when I learned it, there was a Ramona book where she liked the cursive Q because it looked like a 2.
