Mass shooting outside Indianapolis mall [Circle Center] leaves 7 injured, all children and teens, police say (www.cbsnews.com)

Police said they initially responded after patrol officers in the downtown area heard several shots being fired nearby. They found six minors, among a larger group of kids, suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. An emergency medical services crew transported all of them to a hospital for treatment. One of the...

Of course not. Freedom for me and not for thee.

Believe it or not, the bookshelf here is surprising well-stocked and curated. Everything from John Grisham, Jodi Picoult, David Baldacci, both the complete Harry Potter series and the Twilight series, the complete Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, etc.

Not all my kind of thing (in fact, out of those, I only really car about Picoult and Douglas Adams) but unlike the internet, they put some thought into it.

Thanks.

And I honestly have forgotten what I’ve said at this point. It’s all been a blur of anxiety mixed with tedium.

Ah, ok. I’ve also posted a bunch about it in Casual Conversation and I’ve forgot I’ve said where and what and to who.

I’m afraid they are not going well yet. We’re on the way to a diagnosis, but we haven’t gotten there. A couple of good things have happened, but it’s overall not good or bad news yet so far. But thank you anyway.

Sort of like how Elon was going to rid Twitter of bots once he bought the company.

It’s still filled with them.

The gender is… both! It’s a littler!

FlyingSquid,

No, but Google tells me he’s a chef in Chicago, so I’m not sure how that’s relevant.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

No, you’re assuming everyone spends that much.

An average is just that, an average. And it’s an average heavily weighted towards the rich.

It means that a vast percentage of people spend less than that, some of them far less.

And what I suggest they do is keep doing it because it’s only a few bucks a month and it won’t make a difference.

My family is not poor and we do not spend anywhere near $300 a month eating out. But we do eat out sometimes. It makes us happy. Sometimes I buy Taco Bell for my daughter. It makes her happy and I like to make her happy because it makes me happy.

You would have us never do any of it.

What else should people deny their kids in the name of money? Toys? Let them play with a stick and a rock?

You literally said everyone:

We’re talking in circles. You think I only mentioned Netflix. I didn’t. I also said fast food. You also think I said poor people. I didn’t. My suggestion is for everyone.

As long as they don’t suffocate you first, they won’t eat your face.

Some of us need someone who loves us without judging us.

Sorry, no health updates. I've been on hold for 2 days and now it's the weekend. So here's a few observations about the weirdness of Rochester, MN and more crazy mother stories!

Hello! Another super-long Flying Squid post from my visit to the Mayo Clinic here in Rochester, Minnesota. I’d link to the background, but there’s been too many (requested) update posts at this point. Sorry for anyone new to this who actually reads to the end....

My favorite of all time would be Scotland Yard, but I also enjoy playing the cooperative variant of Settlers of Catan.

The reasoning at the time was that the Japanese would not believe the U.S. could do it more than once and they would have to believe the U.S. could obliterate Japan in order to surrender.

I have no idea if that would have been true, but that was the idea. It certainly is true that the Japanese were being told to fight until every last man, woman and child on the islands died, so it was a desperate situation all around.

But the fact is that it was only a matter of time before someone developed an atomic bomb and no one has been crazy enough to use one in a war since 1945. The main reason for that, in my opinion, is that the world saw what happened.

Do you think thing people understand things in the abstract just as well as encountering a concrete example?

World leaders do not do abstract thinking well.

They did one test in the desert which did not clearly show the destruction. It did not show the deaths. It did not show the shadows on the wall. It did not show the burns. It did not show the blindness. It did not show the radiation sickness.

And the very first words in my post were, “I do not wish to justify the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,” so I don’t know why you seem to think I believe they were justified.

Do you really not think anything the future can learn from can come out of a tragedy, no matter how horrific?

All of human history?

World leaders don’t get to be world leaders if they do not do abstract thinking well.

Yes, that certainly sounds like Donald Trump or Kim Jong Un.

Good thing they never had any access to nuclear weapons.

I can’t imagine why it would be any harder than what they ended up doing.
