Hirom,

I’m going to assume lack of volonteers.

Hirom,

That’s unfortunate for people using it, but a good thing in the long run.

Cryptocurrencies that use proof-of-work, and haven’t already migrated to less resource-intensive schemes, are doing more harm than good.

Hirom,

That make total sense. Let’s just give up and accumulate a few more tokens while the world burns.

Hirom,

Tell us about the options.

Literally anything but proof of work: taler, proof of stake, proof of weight, fiat currency, gold coins, pokemon cards…

These all have advantages and disadvantages, it depends on what users prioritize: polluting less, privacy, decentralisation, convenience, …

Hirom,

Arkane is a gem, don’t close it damnit

Hirom,

In China, where authoritarianism is justified by redefining the term, a woman has reportedly been beaten to death during interrogation after accusing police of murdering her husband (dominotheory.com)

The reason behind the husband’s death is equally uncertain, except to say that he died in prison in East Turkestan (Xinjiang) when serving a sentence for the “crime” of accessing overseas websites, one of six men from the same village to leave this world in similar circumstances....

Hirom,

Beating people to death, an interesting strategy to stop complaints about people being beaten to death.

Hirom,

Wrong choices happen when there’s deletion of useful historical data, motivated by short-term cost saving.

Wrong choices also happen when there’s unnecessary creation on data, such as logging and storing everything, just in case, with a verbose level.

Storage can be cheap in some cases, but high-availablility high-performance cloud storage is very expensive. Anyway, it’s not infinite.

The way to keep useful data is to be strategic and only store relevant logs. Fine tune retention policy especially for fastest growing data. Storing everything on high-cost storage, without smart retention policy, could lead to deleting git data to make place for a mix of debug logs and random shit.

Hirom,

Hirom,

I hope they succeed. Access to space shouldn’t depend on a single company, especially one owned by Musk.

Hirom,

Different groups and people are calling SpaceX a dominant launch provider and even a temporary monopoly.

Space is different from other sector. That’s doesn’t make it immune from the risk of monopoly.

@france

https://disclose.ngo/fr/article/espionnage-des-journalistes-la-france-fait-bloc-aux-cotes-de-six-etats-europeens

While the text includes safeguards already established in EU law, […] The text confirms the “respect” of Member States’ responsibilities, explicitly mentioning Article 4(2) TEU, which states that “national security remains the sole responsibility of each Member State.” The consequence is that the Council’s retention of the national security exemption enables EU governments to potentially deploy spyware against journalists under the guise of national security outside the protective framework of EU law.

Hirom,

This team will hopefully find jobs elsewhere very easily. Competitors should take this opportunity to hire skilled workers.

Hirom,

Hirom,

Nice list. Note MicroG doesn’t appear in F-Droid’s default repository. It probably cannot be installed as a regular app, or requires adding a different repository.

Hirom,

I’m currently trying HeliBoard, and was about to say I also miss the multi language cabapility.

But HeliBoard do have that capability, it’s just not obvious to enable.
