SimCity 2000 is not a friendly game 😅... Just taken me the best part of an hour to get the basics of a city on the board

It's travelled a long way, anyone want to guess what the mystery game is inside?

Whilst I'm in a #ResidentEvil 2 kind of place, I once again highlight this mystery. Can any #RetroGaming people help me out?? What's going on with this window has bothered me for years 😅 https://hundstrasse.com/2019/01/21/resident-evil-2-rabbit-hole-involving-windows/

Finished up Tomb Raider ('13) last night... I don't know... The whole braiding Toms thing seemed really secondary. Those little puzzle platform sections worked really well, but mostly it felt like another get to the next marker sort of game. Last third was heavy on set pieces and enemy corridors.

Maybe it's because I've been playing the original, but I kinda wanted more of that quiet puzzle platforming...

... puzzle box level design of the 90's is underappreciated

Also received some amazing surprise post presents from friends ☺️. These are both amazing! Reminded me that my tweens, I attempted to recreate the various swipe cards and documents from the game 😅 #ResidentEvil #RetroGaming

Yes, I CW plot spoilers for 20+ year old games, because being surprised by an unexpected twist in a modern game is fine, but being surprised by a game that's decades old and you made assumptions about it based on what you thought you knew, is even better. So you know, go and play things without finding too much out about them... It's pretty cool

when games gave you a special moment to get a hot drink before you could play.

... and then suddenly Tomb Raider ('13) went all out full action... not cool Tomb Raider...

In other news, I've enjoyed my first week with the Steam Deck.

Returned home after a break away to find this on the doormat. Played the heck out of it on a housemates GameCube years ago, and the PS2 version after that, but couldn't resist adding it to my growing GC collection. Gonna jump back in and see how it holds up.

Tooting this morning for me thinking about my last dabble with relaxation apps and anxiety coping techniques that I ultimately abandoned.

I think I just need to make my own mobile app called "Mindfulness for Engineers" that uses the phrase 'Diagphragmatic Breathing" over "Belly Breathing", and will never expose users to the word 'Chakra'.

(If that's what you're into, great, but I don't want philosophy blended into practical relaxation)

Sometimes I think of the first time I saw a MagicEye picture. My family and I were all standing in Athena staring at the posters along with a whole group of other shoppers. Occasionally someone would blurt out "Oh! I can see it!", or a helpful hint like "so, try focusing like through the wall"

I think we were there for like an hour

That's a pretty 90's memory right there...

Giving Themepark on a go this evening after my SimCity 2000 fail last night.

It's sooooo much better. Like it's genuinely been tweaked to make it controller compatible.

Was kind of touched that someone from Twitter sent me a message saying that they missed following me and gave me a Bluesky invite code if I wanted to try it out.

What do people think? Is it worth it? Much going on in the Retro gaming stuff over there?

(p.s. I'm not leaving Mastodon. Feels like home here now)

Fun fact: the lyrics to any instrumental song are always about my dog... And I sing them to him.

Lemmings 3D is one of those ambitious messes that characterised the awkward transition from popular 2D game to 3D.

Recently picked up the PS1 version having not really played it since my early PC days. Having played a few levels, it's a rough experience...

... Though it gets full marks for really embracing 3D environments. No half isometric sonic 3D blast measures. And it does try to help the player as much as possible

(A thread 🧵)

I've picked up a few things on Steam on the sale from the wishlist, but with the arrival of NanoStrasse, gaming is going to be fragmented at best. Any recommendations on things that are easy to dip in and out of that are Deck compatible?

Shhhhh... Don't tell anyone, but I have a weekend all to myself in a couple of weeks. Gonna play some games, maybe work on my text adventure, order takeout.

... But seriously, don't tell anyone. Ok, Maybe tell one person...

(p.s. I love my family, but carving out some dedicated Hundstrasse time is difficult)

It's amazing how publishers of school reading books really manage to produce works that capture young children's imagination and fuel a lifelong passion for reading. Just look at this gem I pulled out of MiniStrasse's book bag!

A cool #RetroGaming project that I hacked together a few years ago was something that strapped to the front of my G-Con2 and let me play #PS2 #LightGun games with the original hardware on a modern TV.

It uses a Wii style camera and beacon to work out screen position. Then, by stripping the sync trigger from the composite video signal, times an LED to flash at the gun's light sensor at the moment when a hypothetical CRT beam would scan through that point. 1/3 🧵 #Arduino

I really want to buy this SCART cable. Like maybe it turns any video signal you watch through it evil! ...

... Gotta be a B-horror movie here somewhere

Anyone else ever play a single player game and worry that you're not playing it right? Like, you're progressing well through the game, but somehow you feel like the designers would be disappointed in how you're doing everything? I feel like that with Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

Wait, is this a Resident Evil Remake or a REmake Remake? Or maybe should should just leave it the heck alone?
